Sat in a hotel room in Dundee (someoneâs got to be.) and catching up on the conversations and opinion. Here is mine:
As much as I have totally disagreed with both the principle and the dishonest delivery of the ownerâs name-change campaign, I do agree that he has the right concept of running the club as a business with considered controls. In the name-change he has failed to adhere to his own most fundamental business concept and that is very disappointing and equally infuriating.
These seating changes cannot avoid disappointing and upsetting current pass-holders who will be affected by the changes; to balance it, in some way, there will be those who will take the opportunity to improve their current position. The club is trying to address much repeated criticism of the poorly placed away support and the (supposed) feeble attempts at singing; not everyone is as concerned at this as others and, as an educated guess, I would think they are predominantly the premium priced ticket holders.
The main protagonists on this thread are, generally, the same ones who have been critical of the two points the club is trying to address, so it hard to be totally sympathetic as the club, as any business, sometimes needs to make a decision and not get bogged down in consultation. The clubâs poor performance over the name-change has simply given folk a stick to hit them with, which is a pity.
The points about stadium acoustics are a bit of a red-herring; Iâve sat in different home and away seats at a variety of grounds and, to be frank, none of them are great when the support isnât. If you and those around you are noisy, you will struggle to hear the rest. There is only so much the club can do.
Out of all of this I do feel sorry for those pass holders who might not have complained about the location of the away fans and might not be too bothered about the singing, but they now find that, although not been told to move, they have been given the option as they are having the away support imposed on them â itâs not everyoneâs cup of tea.
I think that if folk make the best of it and let time and a season or two develop it, then it will prove to be an improvement.
