Should Scotland be an Independent Country?

  • No

Joe Merrick was raised in County Down by his Irish mother and Glaswegian father. He came to Scotland in the 1970s.

“I have heard about border controls between Scotland and our close friends in England. Such nonsense, when I have crossed the UK-Irish land border many hundreds of times and have yet to be asked for my passport.”

Bet he'd be saying something else if the topic were British troops in Ulster.

Pauline Clark, mother of Hannah, aged 11, and Lachlan, aged 7, lives in West Lothian. She recalls that one of her first memories of her Donegal father, a fiercely proud Irishman, is of him teaching her The Red Flag.

WTF <yikes>

Why, after every lurch to socialism over the past 100 years had led to misery and debt, do these ****s think that it will be different in Scotland than it was in every other socialist country?

Why can't they look at all the countries in the East who are growing faster than the West and wonder why? Are all these countries pursuing socialist policies and overtaking the West? Are all these countries more concerned with welfare than wealth creation? Socialism NEVER works!

You're obsessed with socialism man!

No political system works well all the time. Capitalism caused the crash of 2008 for which we're all paying the price (apart from Mick). The human race just muddles along best it can. Sometimes things go right, sometimes things go wrong. The countries in the East will no doubt crash and burn in the coming years just like all countries do.

Scotland isn't going to turn into Cuba with Tommy Sheridan and Patrick Harvie running the country. The SNP are a slightly to the left mainstream political party run mostly by ex-bankers.

I think you are stressing too much about an independent Scotland going Socialist. Salmond has been doing whistle-stop tours of the Irish Republic / Channel Islands / Isle of Man (I actually spotted him walking outside a kebab shop) - I think it's fairly obvious he's going to try go for a low-tax regime for corporations to try steal London's thunder, while trying to use whatever oil revenue there is to pay for the social system.

Nevermind London's thunder don't like to hear he's mooching over here,we have the monopoly on low-tax for corporations!

I'm not obsessed with anything other than making the best of what I've got. This bullshit spouted by you and you ilk about social justice is plainly wrong. It's embarrassing that a 'grown-up' country should be behaving as if it needs to break away from the cradle of modern law and fairness to create an even more modern and fair society.

Capitalism isn't a political system and it didn't cause the crash. The crash happened because of weak regulation, cronyism and protectionism. The same cronies that you allege are running the SNP.

If these guys are now left of mainstream, you should be asking what their motives are.

If Salmond comes out and says that Scotland will become a hub of healthy wealth-creation and entrepreneurial dynamism then I'd vote for Indy in a minute. But pursuing these electoral bribe policies to appeal to the poor and inbred is very off-putting.

I hope so, but I doubt that he'll get elected in Free Scotia.

Do you have any idea what it takes to win an election EDGE? Do you think the SNP are going to win the referendum by solely appealing to people like you?

I'm not going to get into another pointless argument about social justice. If you think the current Westminster Government is delivering well on this front then God help us!

<rofl>

You're clueless, ST. The biggest cause of the crash was weak regulation caused by tinkering from lobbied politicians in the US and then Europe.

I've yet to see one of your pointless arguments on social justice. Please explain how this is not being delivered by Westminster and Holyrood.

The bastions of capitalism.
