Probably down to having top quality cover. Sagna would make most teams as RB.

But that's illogical. Sagna must be thinking that that would be a possibility too and therefore would surely be something he would ask them when speaking to them? And therefore why would he go if he knew he would be on the bench? Or even only playing 50% of the time? Is he that fussed about a final pay check? I can't see it.

It's not as if defence is a place you have competition and rotation going on like you could up front. Yes you need a squad's worth of defenders to cover in case of injury but a good defence is one that is settled and stable week in, week out. You don't see Kompany being rotated around. Or Hummels. Or Dante. Having two top class RB's seems mental. Unless it means getting rid of Zabaleta... which would be just as mental.

He will be leaving for the following reasons:

    - More money
    - A longer contract
    - A better team
    - A team that is competing at a higher level
    - A more ambitious team

Even if he is on the bench or playing for 50% of the time, he has a better chance of winning silverware at the highest level. Also it'll be a better ending to his career.

Man Citeh rotate their 2 Left Backs between home and away games.

I'm guessing they want 2 top players for every position.

He's also heavily linked with Chelsea. That move makes more sense as Ivanovic can just as easily play as CB and Maureen likes to play Azpilcueta at LB. TBH though if he's interested in regular game time and staying in England then he may as well stick with us.

But that's more because neither are particularly good. If they bought Shaw you know full well he'd play 90% of their games.

It's just odd... and depressing if any are true:

    - More money - fair enough, but if he goes for this then meh, whatever
    - A longer contract - that's the same as point 1 really... the money
    - A better team - but if you're not playing much in it, is that a draw?
    - A team that is competing at a higher level - they're playing in all the same competitions as we will be
    - A more ambitious team - maybe... but again, if he doens't play much is that a big draw?

I suppose I just don't want to be let down by a player that i've felt is one of the 'true Arsenal' players we've had the past few years and I don't want to believe he'd rather go and sit on City's bench earning money than play for us. Would be a kick in the jaffers.

You are assuming that he will be on the bench for quite a bit of the time. He has been our most consistent and best performing player for quite some time, this makes it all the more impressive as our defence has been one of our weakest areas. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he becomes a regular RB for City, he is that good. To compete in the two top tournaments you need a very good squad and adding a player of Sagna's calibre makes a lot of sense. Also, we may be technically be in both tournaments, but the expectations of us winning the league are low and even less in the Champions league. City have a very good squad that has already won the league and looks dangerous in the Champions league. We are still a bit away from challenging in either the league and Champions league.

But as great as he is, he's not better than Zabaleta and he's not getting any younger. Don't go Bacary! :(

Have to agree with cini on this. I don't see why Sagna would want to go to City, knowing that he's not going to get first team football. It doesn't make any sense.

Would be a kop out really. I don't really see it to be honest. Surely you'd want to play first team football, especially knowing you've only got a couple of years left at the top.

Don't be so niaive Piskie, not only can he earn bigger wages he is likely to receive all sorts of moody endorsements from Etihad or any number of businesses owned owned by the oil Sheikhs.
£100k a week wages so FFP doesn't look too bad, and £3m a year for wearing an Etihad baseball cap at the off media event....

Call me naive if you want, but I still think any decent professional footballer would want to be playing football as a priority.

The trouble with you and me is that we come from a different era, therefore our expectations are old fashioned.
I think it started with Shevchenko, these days there are scores of ill advised players rotting in reserves or lower leagues enjoying the easy life collecting big wages.

Remember Bendtner, Squilaci, Denilson ? We tried for 3 years to shift them from our wage bill but who else would pay them £50k a week ?
They were happy watching from the stands at the weekend for years, it;s the modern player and the mentality they've adopted....

Maybe you're right fella ? I just can't see how Sagna would want to go from being a guaranteed first team player in a team that could well challenge for the title next season, to a bench warmer in a squad of mercenaries.

Anybody up for a bid for Shaquiri ? We could do with a left sided attacking midfielder, he's rumoured to be unsettled at Bayern and he's got a great name reminiscent of that burd with the small and humble breasts

I'd prefer Griezmann for a left sided attacking player.
