Yes he was:

"With six months or less remaining on an existing contract for players aged 23 or older, they are free to negotiate with other clubs and sign a pre-contract agreement"

Edit: Hans beat me too it!

Obviously they have different rules in Germany

Its enshrined in EU law after Bosman isn't it?

EDIT: It's 6months in most countries but 1 month in England (must have a dispensation)

When does his contract expire? I'd guess its probably in it's last month now.

And i doubt it will of stopped his agent having negotiations for the last 6 months, as honest as they are :emoticon-0105-wink:

Sagna originally signed for Arsenal in July 2007 so I don't know if his contract also expires in July.

Javi Martinez story is ridiculous, sounds like a daily mail special but it seems to have come from the telegraph..

Agreed. No way would a Spanish manager let go of his Spanish elite player in his prime.

On a side note, its refreshing to have a player (Bender) speak the truth about their situation.

Well... you say that but he's not his number one choice. I still think it's nonsense mind, mainly as we'd not chuff up that sort of money combined with him probably not wanting to come to Arsenal via Bayern. I genuinely laughed when I read the "story".

I was trying to be nice. But I agree, an elite player, playing for an elite club coming to Arsenal? Apart from the rare signing of one Ozil, the chances of us signing up an elite player is unlikely. We will be going after mid-level/youth players. This is just lazy journalism.

Not sure how much it has to do with his knees, but he definitely had the talent to make it in the Premier league. But talent only goes so far, after that it becomes dedication and hard work. Always a shame when someone doesn't fulfill their potential.

As for Sagna to city, neither of zabaleta or Sagna will be happy as a bench warmer so it either isn't happening or zabaleta will be available in which case we should move for him.

I just don't understand City's interest in Sagna. He's no better than Zabaleta and 2 years older so what's the appeal? Is Zabaleta not favoured or something? From City's perspective I can't see how the move would benefit them in any way.
