Rangers chairman David Somers made the comment after the club's interim results showed a £3.7m loss for the seven months to December 2013. At the start of that period, McCoist added nine new faces to his squad, signing Cammy Bell, Steve Simonsen, Bilel Mohsni, Steven Smith, Richard Foster, Nicky Law, Arnold Peralta, Nicky Clark and Jon Daly. However, Somers suggested in the club's interim report that such additions were not affordable. He said: "Operating costs had been running at a rate that could not be sustained by the revenue being generated by the Club. "For example, in the period under review, nine players were signed at a time when the Club already had the second highest wage bill in Scottish football whilst playing in the third tier." However, McCoist has insisted that his squad required the new faces if they were to compete in League One and in the three cup competitions. When asked if he agreed with Somers' assessment, he said: "I don't know, I don't do the accounts, I don't do the finances. "We felt we needed to bring a lot of players in to win the league, to get to the final of the Ramsdens, to get to the semi-final of the Scottish Cup. And we did that. "I'm led to believe the wages came down from the previous year. So (whether it was sustainable) is something you would have to ask other people. I don't do the finances."
You won a part time league against guys that are brickies and postmen, and got shown up in the cups by opposition teams with a fraction of your budget. He almost sounds satisfied with abject failure.
