Hello Canaries, just wondering what your thoughts are concerning life at Carrow Road following the sacking of Chris Hughton?

It's my opinion that, just like my beloved Newcastle United, you sacked him unfairly.

I think you will get relegated now when I look at your remaining fixtures and, frankly, I think Chris will afford himself a wry smile.

Following Paul Lambert was always going to be a thankless task, but considering the players and finance available to Hughton, I think he did very well in general. Ok, some of the strikers he bought haven't set the Premier League alight as yet but given time they will all prove to be shrewd signings.

I would welcome Chris Hughton back with open arms to SJP but whilst we still have Mike 'Jabba' Ashley in charge, there is no chance of that happening.

Our inability to break teams down and woeful away performances under Hughton would likely have relegated anyway and if we go down it's because he left the team in a poor position not because he left.
 
He had the players afraid of their own shadows, like rabbits caught in the headlights and stifled any creativity, flair and invention out of them all. Do you not remember last season's dire, abject 0-0 at Carrow Road vs the Toon, whan we failed to muster a single solitary shot on target?

We got shot too late to save ourselves this year, I personally believe, but even Stevie wonder could see that our performance v Liverpoo under Neil Adams yesterday was head and shoulders more urgent, inventive and passionate than anything Hughton was ever likely to oversee <ok>

He has single handed destroyed our club, strangled the like out of our attacking players & if we do go down it will be soley down to him.
It has clearly come to the attention of the fans just how defensive he has been since Neil Adams has taken charge.
The team has been more attacking, better set up and finally there's some fight back in the team.
We should have IMO got rid of him last season, but definitely at Xmas.
 
I used to have a great respect for Newcastle fans but after the amount of self-righteous fans coming on to this board and telling us Chris Hughton is the messiah and Chris Hughton was too good for us, and we are terrible people and a terrible club for sacking Chris Hughton, my view is beginning to change.

One point I will pick up on: I do believe, as you say, that van Wolfswinkel and Hooper are very good strikers. BUT, after Hughton's negative and backwards tactics, they were never going to score more goals than they have this season. It will only take a manager who actually knows how to attack and how to score goals who will unlock their potential. Chris Hughton has proven that, when it comes to scoring goals, he doesn't have a clue.

Oh, and we were rubbish at defending as well.

If we go down, it won't be the final five games that did for us, but the preceding 33. Chris Hughton is a lovely bloke, but he was out of his depth and had to go.
 
I have been one of Hughton's fiercest critics but I do not hold him entirely responsible for the predicament that we find ourselves in. McNally has done a lot for our club for which I will be eternally grateful BUT, should we go down it is because of the fact he didn't sack Hughton sooner and whatever anyone else says I will not change my opinion on that.
 
Sacked him unfairly! He was blood lucky to have had a board support him for as long as they did. An other team in the PL would have got shot months ago as should have we. Had we done the right thing and sacked him before Xmas I highly doubt we would be in the **** he has left us in. The 2 performances since he has gone have been far, far better than anything he had managed for months. For you to want him back would be condemning your team to relegation.

Spot on mate.
He's defo got to take a large part of the blame
 
I think people are a bit too harsh on Hughton he kept us up last season and out off the bottom 3 most of this season. So he is far from being a disaster (and far far far from being the best obviously) and single handed destroyed our club as someone dramatically said.
 
Sometimes a manager just does better at one club than another.

A Villa supporting mate is always incredulous when I talk in glowing terms about Paul Lambert.

Similarly, Mike Walker is frequently described by Everton fans as a terrible manager.

To a Newcastle fan who has had a manager leading them to a championship title and mid table security and then was sacked at an unlikely juncture by an unpopular chairman, Hughton is a manager that deserves many plaudits.

To a Norwich fan who has sat through performances such as West Brom and Fulham at home and Aston Villa and Swansea away the perspective is very different.

I have a lot of respect for Newcastle fans and feel they are some of the better ones in this division.
 
<ok> Spot on, KC, and there's no rhyme or reason behind why any of the three names you mentioned have succeeded / failed at those different clubs.

I guess it involves a certain amount of clairvoyance from the board, trying to 'predict' whether they'll be as successful at 'B' as they were at 'A'? :emoticon-0112-wonde

McNally has to take the blame for letting it continue as long as it did.
Is that clear enough for your single cell to get now?
 
To be honest I don't care what Newcastle fans think.

They couldn't of been that passionate about him because Ashley is still there flogging their club for every cent he can get.

They should worry a bit more about their own failings as supporters as a non reactive force.

WE got Hughton sacked, because WE knew he was ****.

Finally! - there you have it perfectly summed up, the fans did help to get Hughton sacked, as anyone with even an inkling of common sense realises. It´s palpable nonsense to keep on pretending that Hughton was solely to blame for our predicament, just because that´s what you´d like to think it was. How many managers and players over the years have said that ´the fans are our 12th man´, this season a section of our home fans have fallen very far short of that quote, and have time and again let Hughton and the players down. This last home game clearly showed the difference it can make when all the fans get behind the team for the whole game. There´s absiolutely no doubt that had Hughton still been in charge, after 15 or 20 minutes on Sunday, the moaning would have started, and at half-time the players would in no uncertain terms have been booed off.

Also, to absolve the players from any sort of responsibility is ludicrous, yes, Hughton instilled a defensive mindset into them, perhaps too much of a one, but that doesn´t stop them being able to play simple 10 yd passes to each other, or defend properly at a free kick or corner. Even with Adams now at the helm, they´re still making those same mistakes, Liverpool´s 3rd goal yesterday came from an awful mistake from Johnson, which again, under Hughton would have brought howls of derision from some of the fans.

So for heavens sake, Hughton played his part, yes, but so did many other factors.

I wanted Hughton gone, but I largely agree with what you're saying.

Please don't tar us all with the same brush though: I have never booed the players, and I like to credit myself on giving every player or manager as much chance as possible (I still believe RvW will come good, and felt a great deal of satisfaction when Jackson propelled us into the Premier League when everyone else had given up on him). I also clapped the players at half-time and full-time on Saturday, as did a lot of others. Thing is, it's a two way street. If the players play well, they get the crowd going and vice-versa. West Brom was a disgrace both on and off field, but the players' lack of commitment and dire performance did them and Hughton no favours. It was the last straw.
