Saints fans reported a man in the away end at Spurs (probably a Saints fan) for racist (anti-semitic) chanting. Some people seem to be getting their knickers in a twist more about the fact that Saints fans reported the man than what the man was saying. I'm actually quite proud that some of our fans wanted to distance themselves from his actions (which presumably were quite offensive). Others suggest he may not have been a Saints fan....that is possible as we didn't sell all our tickets, though we mustn't assume that none of our fans are capable of being idiots.

Plenty of Saints fans are arseholes, as has been helpfully demonstrated to us by the internet. Good on those who reported him.

Very difficult to comment without being there but the priniciple of reporting racial and anti-semitic abuse cannot and should not be challenged. The Spurs thing is a bit of a special situation though given that they use a term that is allegedly offensive to some as a badge of pride for themselves!

I went to the Spurs game last year and some drunken Saints fan spewing out racial stuff behind me. No-one was brave enough to do anything about it I'm ashamed to say. So, I'm glad that someone had the courage to do something this time.

I don't know where you're reading people complaining about reporting racist abuse...they can be safely ignored.

You'd think the stewards would have intervened, after all racism is supposed to banned from grounds.

Saintsweb for one.... need I say more. It was the whole concept of reporting someone that some didn't like...I suppose they thought you should handle it yourself, but we aren't all capable of that. And if you did get involved, you could end up with a ban yourself. The idea that grassing on someone is a worse offence than racism should be left in the schoolyard.

Started off as racism, then anti-semitism, although really we know it's just anti-spurs/ banter. Although they shouldn't have lowered themselves to that level.

And snitches get found in ditches.

Unfortunately, 'braaap' is about ten years out of date as actual street talk or ironic use therein. Even on Jonathan Ross' show, where he'd use the term for laughs whenever he had a 'rapper' as a guest, it was last spotted back when it was on BBC.

Nah all you have to do is tune into a music channel dedicated to UK hip hop and you will hear it plenty of times. I had the pleasure of hearing it when my SKY decided to freeze up on it.

Good on them. Racism is never acceptable no matter what spurs fans chant. I garuante most that chant it are not Jewish. I was at the match, didn't hear anything unusual apart from one weirdo chanting "I hate football".

As a geography student I can assure you identifying grass is possibly one of the most tediously difficult tasks on the sylabus. The manual alone for this one skill is several hundred pages long..

I must admit to being somewhat amused when the Millwall fan was charged for shouting "Pikeys" at the Gillingham supporters. When the CPS went to court the defence barrister produced as evidence a tee shirt worn by a lot of the Gillingham fans.It had "We are the Pikeys" emblazoned across the front.
