I genuinely only see West and South as 'real Yorkshire' in all honesty. Yorkshire is a culture, as much as a county, and I aren't convinced North or East come into this category. " - blader. Interesting, so the city of York isn't in real Yorkshire? You know, the county named after it?

Interesting that he refers to 'West and South Yorkshire', as opposed to 'the West Riding'. Not very Yorkshire at all <laugh>

I struck up a friendship with a blade and we used to stay at each other's houses and go to any games we could, he took me to a Utd/weds game and I have never been so f'king glad to get out alive! Can't remember the year but Carlton Palmer got a straight red! All the blades fans were a descent set really! While ago now! All he ever wanted to do was come here and watch the local rugby teams punch the hell out of each other!

Sorry this must be a wind up?

Er why? You not got any mates from anywhere else?

I know and exchange views with lots of peoples from lots of places about football , but couldn't really see having real mates who support rival clubs.

Depends on your idea of what constitutes a mate, I suppose.

I live and work in Sheffield with many Blades and Owls. General consensus is that they fully expect to lose but are relishing the day out (they have a **** record at Wembley). They also acknowledge us as being from Yorkshire.

Sounds like the Hull FC of football <laugh>

30 onto one?

Sounds about right.

"We should remember that greatness has come from Hull in the past, that Wilberforce gained his inspiration to free slaves from wandering around Hull and observing the locals, that the best thing about Hull is the bridge out of it and that it takes a lot of effort and a long time to polish the three Division Three championship trophies that sit proudly in the dusty trophy cabinet." - paulus.

Can't help but laugh at that, he's got a point.

Yorkshire derby my arse. Sheffield's in Derbyshire and South Yorkshire was invented to accommodate the dross we didn't want in the three ridings.

The lad from Selby must have had a time here and seems to still carry the scars.

I can think of nowhere I've been to England for football that doesn't have run down areas, rusting industries, large council estates with bad rep locally. On that board there seems to be some to whom this is a revelation.

Bizarrely the Selby kid compares Hull to York <laugh> they will be horrified at that.

Man City fans are praised as being 'real fans' who stuck by their club in the third division (it was one season).

I wonder how low their gates would have got if they'd gone 19 seasons without promotion, finished in the lower half of the 4th division for a few seasons, been locked out, wound up etc etc

Hopefully it will be a loud and raucous semi final that will put Arsenal - Wigan to shame.
