Aye I didn't include them yet as they haven't left, like I say though it was just to make a point! I still think we will spend and I didn't work out the wages from Carroll either so it's not exactly water-tight!
I reckon we will spend around the £10mil mark for one or two players; I was just making the point that we shouldn't use the £35mil as gospel be all and end all kitty. If Ashley includes wages in the incoming players' fees, he'll do the same on the outgoing players & he was going to have to give the club some transfer funds this summer anyway (regardless of the Carroll sale).

We may still need some money to spend in January cover for African cup of nations and injuries. I think we've been very sensible so far long may it continue.

Because he's a great player and has been pretty damned humble the whole time he spent at Wigan.

As are many footballers. But i think people are excited about the prospect because hes been class for Wigan, has grown as player and is now a full french international.

Most fans arnt bothered about attiudes as long as they perform on the pitch.

 

Zog spent two years at Newcastle saying he wanted to move to a bigger club and being a complete disruptive influence....... then moved to Wigan!

 

Not really, his wages were effectively given to Tiote when he signed that huge contract.

 

I said we should include Carroll's, I just couldn't find out what wages he was getting for that five year deal, where there was a few old newspaper articles mentioning Nolan's wage. Forgot about Tiote getting a new deal, as Smudger said that would have spent the money saved from Carroll's wage.

It won't have been anywhere near what we received through the sale of Carroll, but I reckon he would have still given us around the £10-15mil mark, so we should have had a £45-50mil kitty before the sale + wages of Nolan.

 

Aye, but he wants to come back and hes a top player so everyones a winner. Lad was only 21, 22 when he left - still a kid.

 

I think it clever business, we are hopefully saving money to make a couple of big signings (10mill +)

Can't believe the number of people who are upset because we have picked up three very good players for effectively zero capital outlay. Cabaye was valued by his club at about £10m, Ba and Marveaux had they not been out of contract would have probably cost £7m or £8m each but we got them for a total of £4.3m. That is brilliant business. Do people actually want the club to spend money just for the sake of it or to prove to other clubs that we can? I hope we get the players we need for as little money as possible.

But like others I think we will still be getting some more players who we will have to pay fairly large sums for. I doubt MA will have much change from the £35m by the end of the summer and if he does he will probably spend it in January.
