A lot of us, me included, never wanted AVB in the first place. I certainly would have had Martinez before AVB, even back then. But yeah, Rodgers has proved a revelation.
And his own, while on the pool subject according to the gossip column if they finish top4 they are going to move for Verts.
No chance!...we would never sell to them, and there would be more interesting options available to Vertonghen - assuming we agree to let him go.
"I don't think that is accurate about why Harry was sacked." With Arry we had at the end : 1. The loss of a CL slot due to that relegation form PL collapse 2. Coveting the England job when his stock was high 3. His gobbiness IMHO none of the above in isolation cost him his job the Spurs (though #3 used to p-i-s-s me off immensely) . But a special concoction of all of them (that only Arry seems capable of making ) , ultimately did. The thing for me is that I expected him to be gone anyway. But to the England job after securing a CL slot for Spurs (thus proving he could raise a squad of lesser collective ability to compete against squads with far better collective talent) . "In a few year's time it will be apparent that the real mistake was sacking AVB" Like Arry, AVB will be seen as the architect of his own downfall. Though recent games under Sherwood are starting to ask questions about the ability of the squad MF to do even the basic things correctly unless the manager is one who threatens to beat them to within an inch of death if they play poorly.
Manchester United's hopes of playing in European competition next season have been boosted by Manchester City's League Cup triumph. City's win is likely to mean an extra Europa League spot will be given to the 6th-placed team in the Premier League. (Source: The Sun) **** United! We might that spot!
Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero posted pictures on Twitter celebrating his team's Capital One Cup triumph with lifelong City fan and Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher. (Source: Daily Mail) I feared this would happen.
We can just decline a Europa place. Though I suspect AIA will have something to say about that. So the next best thing is to treat it with the same contempt Arry did in 2011 (subject to Spurs not doing a <standard> on the registration for Academy kids) .
I've said elsewhere 7th will still get you an EL spot if any two of Arsenal, City or Everton contest the FA Cup final, which is a real possibility, as all 3 will qualify for Europe by league position anyway.
Given Arsenal play Everton, it would need City and Arsenal/Everton to be kept apart and win their Semis. Probably 50/50 at this stage.
next year Europa League winners will get a CL spot, to be honest that seems like an easier way into the CL than the almighty scrap for 4th
I was absolutely AGAINST AVB but thought moyes would have been good too...so I am horribly right and wrong!
Heh, you weren't the only one, me too. Although I did have Rodgers or Martinez as second choices. Yeah, that and playing some of the most boring, ****e football that I've had the misfortune to see from a Spurs team. Compared to AVB even George Graham's teams were like watching Brazil.
