No, I think that we can still talk about Ozil now, actually! Tries to be clever with a penalty, then sulks for the rest of the game and ends up getting castigated by a teammate for the second time in about six weeks. He looks like he doesn't want to be there, despite Wenger persisting with him when he's playing terribly.

Last night summed up Soldado for me. Decent enough movement, some truly outstanding flicks and one-touch trickery to link the plays and send others away, and then a frankly awful attempt at a tap in. Yes the ball clearly bobbled on the pitch but its not unreasonable to expect a player who has produced the kind of finishes we have seen him produce in the past to be able to account for such bobbles when he's under no pressure from the opposition. Maybe its one of those that we forget if he puts in other chances in the match but when he only seems to be getting one or two a match he has to be putting the uncontested tap ins away, unfortunate bobbles or no.
His technique going in was all wrong: leaning back, leading with the shin - that was the kind of thing my school PE teacher would give you grief for.
I see what you mean yes. Mystifying that a player like him can do that so badly, you really expect better. If we can keep getting him into those positions with crosses etc. then hopefully he'll put some away though, its about time.

Thats what I mean though notso. We wouldn't be talking about this miss, bad and unfortunate as it was, nearly so much if Soldado had tucked in a couple of others and we'd won the game. Whereas he didn't, and we lost, so we're dwelling on it. Nobody scores 100% of the time, not even Ronaldo and Messi, but these players seem to get more chances to score in each game than I can count on two hands - by and large they can afford to miss the odd sitter. Soldado is only getting one or two, and rarely are they tap-ins, so he really has to be putting them away when the easy ones come along. Its very badly timed and yes, everyone misses them and yes, if he'd scored with that volley later on in the match (the one that took 2 deflections and went behind) or been given a couple of other chances for tap-ins and scored them then we'd feel better about him no doubt. But thats football I guess.
Little early for failure talk, isn't it? I think both will come good with time. But, for the sake of argument, I'd say Ozil is doing better than Soldado, who's been relatively poor throughout this season.
Soldado needs to play alongside another striker and he'd benefit from decent midfield service. We're giving him neither, for some reason.
