Who's the biggest failure so far: Ozil or Soldado?

Tough to say, Ozil started on fire, bagging assist after assist. As of now, you could argue that he's actually a hindrance to Arsenal, although I don't see much of their games, whenever I've seen Rosicky come on as a sub he's looked better than their £42m signing.

Soldado's early performances were encouraging, even though he relied on two pens, his movement was first rate and at the time it was our midfield failing to find him. Now it's the other way round, he's had a good few opportunities and scuffed them badly, usually failing to even test the keeper and with a rejuvenated Adebayor, Soldado's chances of first team football are now looking very slim.

Purely because I watch Spurs more, I'm going to have to say Soldado. Ozil did cost an extra £16m but at £26m, Soldado should have far more than 1 goal from open play in the league.

There was an article a week or two back on Twitter about who got the better deal out of Arsenal & Ozil and Spurs & Eriksen. Both number 10's and while Ozil has 4 goals, 8 assists in 20 games, Eriksen has 3 goals, 3 assists in 16 games (league stats only). Ozil cost nearly 4x as much, those stats do not suggest to me that Ozil is worth 4x the price of Eriksen and considering Eriksen is only going to be 22 in a couple of days and Ozil at 25 is arguably in his prime, we have a lot to be excited about.
 
Ozil is a very good player but I think his performances earlier in the season were massively overhyped. Ramsey was the real star man (of course there are others, notably in the defence) and now he's not at the same level its telling. Ozil had a good impact as any player of his class should but IMO the media overestimated it greatly due to the huge, and in some ways justified, hype around his arrival in English football. IMO if Arsenal had managed to get a really really top level striker, like Negredo say, and also a bit more squad depth in other positions then they'd be in a better situation now, as I think Santi Cazorla is nearly as creative as Ozil and more of a goal threat, and the extra creativeness can be provided by the likes of Wilshere, Ramsey, Walcott etc. Ozil for me was a bit of a Paulinho type buy - both excellent players but were they really what our respective clubs needed to spend money on? Arguably not.

Soldado is an enigma, probably a combination of learning a new league/language/culture, just hitting bad form, not playing in an appropriate system with a stubborn manager unwilling to change, and being surrounded by other new players who were/still aren't settling completely well can't have helped either. I think (hope) he'll come good next year, if he doesn't leave, as we've seen glimpses of him in terms of movement and interplay but his form just really hasn't been there at all in front of goal. Ozil will probably come good as well because I think he's excellent, but as others have said it may be a matter of Wenger managing his performances a bit better and him fully adjusting to the league.

Soldado the bigger flop right now, but only just due to the bigger fee payed for Ozil and the huge, huge hype.
 
Soldado has been a disaster . We can all see there is a player of ability somewhere there.
Really we can't afford to sell him for a big loss, so we hope he will come good.
Really all our signings have been crap to middling none have been stand out players.

The Turkish Marty Feldman has been slightly better but still a waste of money.
Has he been any better than Eriksen ?
 
I was shot down in flames when the goons signed Ozil ,and I said he wasn't that good,thought Soldado would have done better though
 
I think Cazorla has been strangely underrated, maybe because he looks like anything but a star athlete. I thought he was considerably better than Mata last year when Mata got all the hype, and I think he's considerably better than Ozil this year. Of course Ozil is a very good player but the PL never seemed like a perfect fit for him, and now it seems worse than that. He's looking worn down. I also start to wonder from the combination of rumor and Real being willing to sell him if he doesn't lack a little in the way of dedication and character. Unfortunately, he has a way to go until he matches Soldado for being a disappointment. Or Soldado needs to come back. The truth is, I think Soldado was our best forward for much of the year, then suddenly stopped making all the good passes and runs a couple of games before he was benched.
 
Ozil misses a pemalty agaisnt Bayern Munich, Soldado wouldn't have missed that.
 
Well that Ozil looks a good buy doesn't he? <laugh>. Just think, he cost nearly half a Bale <laugh> Ozil, the 85 minute wonder, you wonder what he is doing for 85 minutes.

He was awful tonight. Ballsed up the penalty, strolled about all game and just didn't look like he could be bothered.
Why Wenger left him on is beyond me.
 
What makes me laugh about Ozil, is the excuse is "the players around him aren't on the same wavelength" "giroud isn't good enough to play with ozil".

They paid 42 million for a player that needs world class players around him. Wenger was an idiot for taking off Carzola, not only does he perform better, hes their most talented player.
 
Bale for 80 million, Ozil for 40 mlllion, Soldado for 28 million and Gio for the change in Villareal's seat cushions have eight or nine goals and/or assists each.

Who's the odd man out there? Gio, naturally, for not having his place on the team under threat.

Soldado and Ozil are similar in getting their team valuable goals/assists early on, then tailing off. From that narrow POV, I'll bet Soldado's contributions were more valuable in terms of points. Most of the goals we got meant three points, most of the rest meant one, and Soldado not only scored and assisted, but was also the pass before the assist five times or so, by my count.

Wenger doesn't want to admit that the first player he has splashed the cash on is a failure. It would reflect on Whinger himself. Rosicky is more use, at least he puts in a shift.
 
Ozil was awful last night after the penalty miss. He hasn't really performed since they got thrashed at the Etihad (and he got told off by Mertesacker for not going to the fans at the end of the game). Big, big question marks over his mentality now, it'll be really funny if this all goes tits up after the Gooners constant crowing about their world-class signing :)
