I realised that today's result really didn't disappoint me that much. I realise that I can't and don't care that much about the FA Cup anymore, and it must have something to do with the precious little done by the FA to make sure its status is kept as high as it used to be, as little as half a dozen seasons back. Years ago I would have been gutted. Now I can't wait to overtake ManU in the Premier league and then set our sights on the next club. We need to finish as high as we can. I'm not satisfied with 8th.

I don't see why people are focussed solely on the league. I mean it is highly unlikely we will ever win the Premiership with the likes of Man City and Chelsea, so realistically we only have the cups left, so to win one would have been a filip. I see very little gamble in going for it today to be honest.

I never said stop discussing just think we should stay positive and look forward not back

I was positive, I for a fleeting moment believed all the bullshit spouted from various people at the club this week saying this was "the most important game of the season". Clearly I should just revert to type and take it for granted everything said by players & managers is just fan placating bollocks.

I was looking forward, looking forward to the possibility of winning something. I was fully aware that it was very far from a certainty, in fact, it would be very difficult, but the dreamer in me, had a little dream about it all the same. Shame it was crushed in such an insipid way today.

Right, back to the mega exciting race for 8th. Wow, I can barely contain myself.

I'm not ruling out anything if the club is willing to be ambitious.

I think the disappointment stems from losing to a team we could have beaten with (relative) ease. Despite what people said on here about having a good chance of winning it to beat a team like everton when they're up for it would be very hard. What about city?

It's especially difficult when the team isn't trying.

Nope. It's been a great season in the league, but an appalling one in the cups. As a result, we have virtually nothing to play for now.

How about playing for 7th or even 6th place in the league Tom? Surely that's gotta be an exciting enough prospect to get ourselves down to St Mary's for? Why limit ourselves?
Set ourselves up for an even bigger push with another 2/3 big signings next year and the youngsters a year older, but by finishing higher we'll attract better players in the summer.
We're more likely to finish higher if the fans believe now, rather than just settling for this "I really don't care what Saints do between now and the end of the season. I'll still follow them but I'm not shelling out £35 to watch a game where Saints have very little to play for. A complete waste of money." rubbish.

Just my opinion, and you're perfectly entitled to yours. I just think yours is the type that may help compromise longer term goals if the masses were to overreact as sensationally as you have here.

Ok, now I've calmed down (I know, I've said that many times ), although I'm still angry and bitterly disappointed I do think I was hasty with some of the things I said. It is by watching City v Chelsea realise how good we have it playing in the same league as these teams. I may or may not go to another game this season, but at least the passion that was missing several hours ago has returned.

:-)

Exactly This.

Mainly agree, as I said in the match thread, can see this season going exactly the way the end of last season went. It will just peter out now.

**** CBK what happened to the original 'real' saints fan?

You too Tom. Sort it out and get yourself to St Marys and follow your team. When I got married I had to declare that I'd better for better or worse, but I've never said that about my team.... It's ingrained. I'll just do it.

Have to say I can understand this view. This was a winnable game today, they made a big deal about it being "game of the season" and then didn't show up. Season's basically over. Sorry, but if you show that kind of contempt for the fans, particularly those poor ****ers who wasted their weekend, and no little amount of money, making the trip up there, then you can have no complaints when you get apathy in return.

You almost make it sound like they did it on purpose.

Clutching at straws now but maybe this is a sign that Poch is going to stay and wants the club to progress further in the league in the coming season's. He has stated that he doesn't want the Europa league which getting to the final would have provided. If he was off in the summer then this wouldn't be a concern to him, also 8th and FA Cup Winner looks better on his CV than 7th and no cup.

We are struggling to see reasons as to why we seemingly didn't really go for the cup. Maybe we are looking short term, when Poch is looking a bit further ahead into next season and what he can achieve with this young squad a year older and no Europa to worry about.

Like I said.. clutching at straws. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I doubt there was a hidden agenda. Mauricio wanted to progress and made the mistake of thinking he could do that with a changed side. It could so easily have been different...if JWP's early attempt or Rickie's miss had gone in. He didn't play a complete second string...unlike Sunderland. Sometimes you can just be too smart for your own good...he should have started with a strong line up and seen how the game went.

You ever said stuff you regret a few hours later? I have already said I have regretted some of what I said.
