The season is not over, every game is a chance to progress. But there was really no reason to take today's game lightly and it's only natural that we, the fans, are utterly dissapointed with the team and the manager.
Odd. I wasn't accusing you of being so, I don't believe in the term. I'm just saying that I hope, with what you're saying today, you don't accuse others of being so. "It doesn't suit me any more, so I'm not supporting"
These ideas would be nice but they just won't happen. They got rid of the Cup Winners Cup because so many of the cup winners in the big nations also qualified for the Champions League and didn't actually take part in the Cup Winners Cup. Realistically the big clubs in the big nations won't going to agree to reduce the number of Champions League qualifiers either.
It's not an "Over-reaction", its a reaction to a woeful loss & performance. If a player makes a mistake as bad as Poch's team selection, he'd probably be dropped for the next game. Thing is, Poch KNEW he was making a mistake and carried on anyway. I do not believe for a second that he felt that side today had as good a chance to win as the one he selected for the Hull game. This could have been a better season, perhaps a one in a million season, if the manager had taken today's game as seriously as all the other ones. I presume he's paid to give all games the same focus. There is a lot of the season left, like last year, when the last part of it tailed off terribly when the team had nothing to play for and the manager then didn't seem able to motivate them as well. Bloody hope that isn't repeated this season.
Agree with this Vin. Also as a side note does this mean you will drop out of the prediction league Tom?
We wouldn't be devoted fans if defeat didn't hurt. I'm sure the players are disappointed and for lots of reasons it just didn't happen, time to draw that line. Onwards and upwards!
Nope...I'm still looking forward to the rest of the season. Finishing 8th would be great, finishing 7th or higher would be ridiculous. If we managed to to overhaul United it would definitely give us extra pulling power in the Summer for new signings.
Of course it did but I just don't think it's a major disaster. The future is still bright and we arelooking up not down.
Ok, now I've calmed down (I know, I've said that many times ), although I'm still angry and bitterly disappointed I do think I was hasty with some of the things I said. It is by watching City v Chelsea realise how good we have it playing in the same league as these teams. I may or may not go to another game this season, but at least the passion that was missing several hours ago has returned.
After taking some time to reflect on todays game I realised its not all bad. We can look forward to seeing a number of our players (hopefully) in an England friendly next month and possibly later this year at a world cup! Its also a great chance to see the next crop of saints players coming through, and we still have a lot of matches to look forward to. Yes, an FA cup run and a day out at Wembley would have been nice but we are curently sat in 8th in the premier league. Look where we've come in the past year and who says we cant mirror that progress next year. Our season is not over, and theres still plenty to look forward to.
I realised that today's result really didn't disappoint me that much. I realise that I can't and don't care that much about the FA Cup anymore, and it must have something to do with the precious little done by the FA to make sure its status is kept as high as it used to be, as little as half a dozen seasons back. Years ago I would have been gutted. Now I can't wait to overtake ManU in the Premier league and then set our sights on the next club. We need to finish as high as we can. I'm not satisfied with 8th.
We've got a small and young squad with a few gaps to fill, a chunk of cash to burn, the club is stable and improving, manager is a continuing breath of fresh air, 12 teams in the Prem wish they were us. Plus some actual good reasons to support England. So yeah, bring on the summer.
