Clearly you've never met anyone who's been properly trained to do their job.

If full training means that you never make a mistake, the job must be very simple. Any job with lots of variables relying on concentration can be messed up on a bad day. Any job involving several people i.e. a team has more potential for being messed up.

Plus you have an opposing team doing their very best not to co-operate with you.

Yes, that is my disappointment too, along with the post-facto realisation that the draw would have seen us play Brighton or Hull, arguably one of the choicest draws for a club hoping to progress in the tournament. Everton and Arsenal will eliminate another contender, and our form against City is pretty good. Feels like something was perhaps aligning.

Along with this, my frustration that we simply cannot seem to beat Sunderland, no matter what team they put out. And simply so some players can be rested to play another team this Saturday who we don't seem to be able to beat either, and who are on an enviable run of form.

I understand that Poch might not want to see us tail off in the league, though. Just maintaining our position might require as few distractions as possible. As long as we deliver on that front, I can see it being a worthwhile gamble.

Question: is focusing on the league placing so to increase our sale value this summer? Or is not going for the Cup a sign that we are not bothered about having a trophy to increase our value, because we are simply not selling?

We still need a few more wins to be mathematically safe. After that, we should look at blooding the youth and give JWP a decent run in the team.

Depends if we can still catch United or not.

I think some bright young chap [with a bad foot perhaps] ought to post up a comparison chart of the 12 game run-in that both teams face, and maybe one or two teams higher/lower..?

Good idea..? Make a decent thread. :)

That was funny...they decided that we were the greatest threat. How times change. We should enjoy it while it lasts, because United won't struggle for long.

Whilst I'm dissapointed with MP for the cup shambles, I completely disagree that there is nothing left to play for. I reckon there's 5 things.

    1. Finnishing as high up the league table as possible means extra money
    2. Giving valuable experience to our best young players (many of which are still in their first full premiership season with the first team). Seeing how Gllagher and Ward Prowse finnish the season, especially, will be interesting and important
    3. Seeing how many of out top players will make it to this summer's world cup
    4. Providing a great springboard for attracting top quality players in positions identified as needing strengthening by finnishing as high up the league as possible.
    5. enjoying watching our team give anyone a game in one of the best leagues in the world.

Granted all of this would still have been possible if we were still in the FA Cup but we are a small, young squad with a lowish wage output and a talanted youth team -there is much to be positive about for the rest of the season and much to learn about going into the summer.
