Definitely. Inevitably rumours are doing the rounds that Kinnear going is the tip of an iceberg and much larger things are afoot. Talk of a buyer for the club having been found etc. All desperately hopeful and with no basis in reality no doubt but it would be lovely if true.

Unfortunately, I think Joe Kinnear has performed his function perfectly - To take the heat when the masses start an uprising! He's a scapegoat - no two ways about it!

Quite possibly. But now what? With Joe gone what is next up Ashley's sleeve?

From a Mark Douglas article in the Journal:

'The whispers are mounting again that Ashley will sell if a bidder emerges; this latest episode having resulted in further disillusionment.

That is given credence by some people looking into the club from the outside but as ever, it is a question of someone willing to do a deal Ashley wants.

The alternative theory is that Ashley has been prompted into action by reports of season tickets being cancelled.

This would suggest there are further changes afoot and that we should stand by our beds for more potentially transformative news.

Either way, it feels significant that a dark chapter in Newcastle&#8217;s history has come to the abrupt and ignominious end that it deserved.'

Don't understand this logic. He caused an uprising when installed as manager, then again when appointed DoF. There's been enough discontent in relegation and selling Carroll without Joe being around and taking the blame.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here - I remember reading that Ashley was rumoured to be annoyed at Joe's tirades and lack of activity in the Summer. I think this January Joe will have gone to Mike and said "look, I can get you 20 mills for Cabaye and there's one or two frogs what Alan Carr's found what'll come for faaakin peanuts, mate." We've always tried, for all the owners failings, to better the squad - this was an argument I kept putting forward before I was made to look like a mug on 1st Feb. I think Ashley has left it to Joe Kinnear to upscale from Yohan Cabaye to both Cabella and Grenier. When it hasn't worked, I would imagine Pardew just saying "for fux sake, guys, why are you killing us? Do you know this fck up is now going to cost the club around £5m in prize money, because finishing above 12th is going to be a struggle" has made Ashley sit up and take notice. So I'm going to play devil's advocate and say that Ashley has, finally, done something for the good of the club.

(cue the bid from some fake Sheikh that Mike willingly accepts)

"Whispers are mounting" could mean absolutely nothing, but as you say, we can hope.

IF he is planning on selling (please, please), I'd rather he put it up fir sale right now. The club is virtually safe and therefore premier league football assured for next season and the books must be looking a lot healthier by now. Plus, if like last time, he waits until the summer then we could have a transfer freeze imposed again, so another window either no improvements.

I think it does show that voting with your feet affects Mike.

Apparently close to four thousand season tickets have not been renewed, that's a hit of around 2-3 million for the owner. I reckon those cancellations, along with Kinnear's failings have sped up the process of him being removed from his position. The only thing we know about Ashley is that he hates losing money. It appears in this isntance he's had no option to to act fast.

I personally don't believe the club will be put up for sale/sold. However the fact that we're not replacing Joe with a DoF is surprising and could be one reason for these rumours about the club being for sale.

You could imagine though breaking news this afternoon with word that this little **** has crossed the Tyne on horseback ready to take the DOF position and to lead Newcastle into complete destruction:
