the reason managers stand on the touch line shouting instructions is because they can see what the players cant see during the game and he can give valuable instructions if their team are not getting anywhere. all the best managers will sit down at the beginning of the match but once they see problems they are soon on the touchline shouting orders and encouragement. fergie, Arsen,the special one and many others, It can make all the difference to the game. By ML just sitting there like one of the spectators does not give any sort of encouragement to his players at all and that is one of his faults...
I have to agree with Dai on this. He doesn't need to shout and go ballistic like Fat Sam and others. Brendan pitched it about right for me - a calm presence on the sideline without too much interference, but always showing an 'interest'.
