Why was he allowed to leave midseason for a trial he cant have been their first choice?

He was their first choice keeper, but having been relegated from the Bundesliga they could no longer afford his wages and a player in the last six months of his contract is allowed to talk to clubs in a different league. Maybe they just had no game on that week, so he was free to spend a week with us.

Anyone else getting concerned about this? The closer it gets to the start of the season and the more other clubs realise that we haven't got a keeper on our books with a league appearance to his name, the more likely they are to charge us over the odds to sign one or even loan one. Personally I'd like to see this situation sorted asap. Any suggestions as to who? Even though he's old Marcus Hahnemann is probably the best option I've seen kicking around.
not worried as Nigel Pearson is holiday at sands le mere in tunstall for 4 weeks

I'm not concerned as such, but I do agree with what Percival said the other day that it was a strange decision not to offer Duke a new contract. He was an average 'keeper available to us for no money and a minimal wage, but instead we've chosen to be in a position where we need to spend money on two new goalkeepers. Given the limited budget we're working on, and all the other positions that need sorting, I'd have chosen to be in a position where we only need one, and mroe of our budget could have been spent elsewhere.

No, he was a train wreck waiting to happen.

With Duke there's 2 issues:

1) We don't know what wages he was on or would want to be given to stay on.

2) He spent a lot of time as our first choice keeper in the PL. We all know he wasn't going to get to be first choice here under NP, so who's to say he would have wanted to sign a new deal as our reserve keeper when he could go and get the same/more money to go and be first choice in L1 or at a club like Peterborough if Lewis goes this summer?

Duke was quoted in the press as saying 'He was gutted to be leaving' by that I assume if we'd offered him a deal, he would probably have signed it. I'd have kept him if wages were in line with our budget. He's been a decent number 2 at the club, got on with the job in hand, reasonably competent as a number 2. It would have meant we only had 1 keeper to sign. At least with Duke we knew his strengths and weakness's. We're now in the Market for 2 unknown quantities if we don't manage anything with Guzan or Mannone.

on the goalkeeping front, with the departure of Prudoe, Myhill, Duke and even Billy Law in as much as one fell swoop, I reckon there is alot we dont know about the detail of what went on. In the same way with every one on holiday right now, i wonder if the future is already known!

I'm sure you're aware but Armina have been relegated to 3rd Bundesliga Although my German friends from Bielefeld tell me it wasn't much to do with Eihoff

Even worse than I thought then, I'd read that following relegation last season they'd run into massive financial problems and had to let a lot of players go, it would seem they're the German version of TWS.

As long has he has permission from his "home" club he can train with who he wants. Most contracts dont run out unitl June 30th, however with the blessing of parent clubs players can sign for new clubs.

I reckon by the time pre season starts we will have 3-4 players in, including at least 1 keeper

Yep, reckon we wil end up with a young keeper on loan and an experienced on a free! Think NP will want similar ability so that they can fight for their place, hence letting Duke go (he was only ever a back up)

Equally, "I'm gutted to be leaving...
...but I want to play first team football and I won't be if I stay."
...but my mortgage and other bills mean I need to earn more than I'm being offered here."

We just don't know either way.
