I have to agree Frenchie ,I dont think Baz will be here long term one way or the other ,as soon as he allowed to run away with a decent profit he will! Always assuming he isnt a front for some other organisation!
OFH, --that is about the only business plan that makes sense --from Mr Bs point of view--and could provide the "missing motivation" for the takeover. One mystery solved? But he would be taking a big chance on us remaining in this division, otherwise the revenues from all sources would fall below the level at which the debts could be re-payed, and the club would also have much less value as a League 1 club.
Whilst I know that there is no such thing as loyalty in football, I'll be gutted if Malky 'does a Judas' on us.
Pure speculation I know, but I have never quite managed to get my head round just why he thinks that a football club is a way to restore his fortune. I still think that he might have a plan in his head and maybe he knows someone who will buy it during the coming season. I don't know if he can think ahead or not, but we could move into the multiple owners as happened at Pompey.
Maybe I'm being a blinkered... or over-optimistic, but surely for Bas to make any kind of profit, we need to have value as a club - so running cost-efficient, be competitive and certainly not dropping down divisions. We all know there was going to be player sales before Bas came in. The board knew it, Malky knew it and us fans knew it - so nothing has changed. We were just fortunate enough to have a 'golden egg' in graham which ensured the players sales should be kept to a minimum! For us to stay competitive, the squas needs reinvestment to replace and improve. Bas has come out with the right 'sound bites', so proof will be once the signings start coming in. At the end of the day, if in 5 (maybe even 4) years we are still at least a competitive Championship side, still have our Academy with a steady flow of youngsters coming through, and are debt free then I will say he has done a good job and won't mind him taking a little profit for himself!
I suggested this on another thread as SalisburyKev says this does depend on us still being a competitive championship side. So I am not entirely pessimistic regarding him. Remember he has maintained three non-executive directors on the board. That is good standard corporate governance and their role is no advise and keep a check on what is going on. If any of them went, especially in light of who they are, I would be very concerned. Overall, I do think its a good plan to get debt free as soon as we can and live within our means again (it means we are more attractive for lending for rebuilding the stadium for a start) and doing it through player sales while we have a lot on good talent coming through makes it a bit safer. He has said we will buy though to complement the youngsters and until this doesn't happen we have to take this at face value.
Maybe it is because I do not gamble, but I just keep coming back to the question, why has Mr B thought he can be a successful football club owner? GT has said that if he had the money to buy a club it would be the last thing that he would spend it on. He knows the inside of football far better than I do, so what he makes of the new owner would be a real insight. I did suggest in a later post that maybe we would not have to wait beyond this season to see Mr B sell up and disappear with a profit. There have been a couple of cases in the last few years where there have been multiple owners in a very short time span.
Have you considered Paul Tisdale of Exeter? Took Team Bath to 3 promotions in 6 years and has taken Exeter from the BSP to the cusp of the L1 play-offs in 5 years
Ahh now its official - most of the football world has us down as 3rd rate! Malky MacKay is only worthy of "promotion" to a Championship side .......... But now Watford are being linked to managers who have just about made League 1 level. Unlike a host of Cardiff and other fans, yes we've heard of Tisdale, Ronnie Moore, Graham Westley. I think this is acknowledgement by most of football that we are now a League 1 club. It is true that one side of our ground looks like non league, and we have the finances of mid table League 1, but I thought we were still in the Championship! Yes I'm angry!
