I agree. So, as Hull City we can't fill the ground, have crap merchandise and crap sponsorship? Perhaps we should try a name change?

I think it's a bit underhand of HDM not to publish the full results (I.e. some of those questions had three or four alternates).

The conclusions that they have drawn therefore are generalisations in an attempt to make an editorial point.

Clearly the survey is flawed anyway as supporters on both sides of the argument had the opportunity to vote multiple times if they could be bothered to google how to do it.

You think changing the name will improve ticket sales and sponsorship deals?

Some people will now renew season tickets if the name changes, putting Hull Tigers on merchandise is going to completely kill off what ****ty sales the club shop are currently managing and all the press around the name change is more likely to put off sponsors than attract them. This against a background of some mythical increase in Asian sponsorship that's never going to come to fruition, we'll end up well out of pocket(at least AA will).

The poll happened. It was conducted by our only daily newspaper and the results will be submitted to the FA. I'm sure the FA will consider the result. As I said the only question is how much weight the FA gives the results. 604 for Hull City Tigers and Hull Tigers combined doesn't suggest overwhelming excitement in Hull for the name change does it?

Nothing, either for or against the name change suggests overwhelming anything in Hull.

Just as 2,370 votes to keep the name is neither a massive show of opposition.

Just out of interest, did CTWD encourage their members to vote in the poll in the same way as they encouraged their members to sign the petition.
If not, why not? (Seeing as you are suggesting it could have influenced the FA.)

As I said it's not what you and me think about the Poll, but what the FA think.

We'll present another petition to the FA which will have substantially more names on it than the Hull Daily Mail one. The FA in their deliberations will consider the views of the fans. At the minute that is against the change by a substantial majority (please note that I'm not claiming we are a majority, just that in every poll undertaken the majority want to remain Hull City).

That's a bit ****ing harsh..... that's like me saying that those that do care are confrontational knob heads who are knuckle draggers itching for a fight like the neanderthals that they are.

Do you slate everyone that doesn't share your opinion?

Maybe, just maybe, those people have more going on in their lives than worrying about a poxy name change that won't make much difference to anyone really.

This may be your opinion, but is only an opinion, not a fact. In any event, as you very well know, putting a catchy, if meaningless, name on merchandise does help sales. I mean, who would have thought "Diesel" jeans would sell? And of course the massive Asian market will buy all sorts of stuff if they think the name is good. Jaguar cars for example - and there are others in the automotive industries who have fallen into the Asian holdings and whose brand name is routinely used to sell merchandise.

We will not be relying on the Hull Daily Mail poll in our evidence, we will mention it, of course.

I think we mentioned the vote on Twitter and Facebook thereby encouraging all City fans to vote. What I'm suggesting is the individual vote for Hull Tigers if it is published could influence the FA. If not the vote for Hull City Tigers/Hull Tigers may have an influence.

I'd say that is the evidence people are alluding to... the one people say doesn't exist, for the name change.

Your spot on there, whoever is in charge or marketing/merchandise there is doing a great job.

They've even opened a pop-up shop opposite St Stephens for the xmas period. I get 3/4 emails a week reminding me of their xmas stock, offers and free delivery periods for their online store.

I have no doubt their merchandise revenue over the xmas period (bearing in mind its their off season) will be much higher than ours.

There's only you and Happy who think a name change has any chance of success, everyone else on here who's not that bothered about the change think it won't bring any benefit.

And it's not just my opinion, every marketing expert who's commented on it has said that it's a daft idea and marketing a club already in the Premier League is far easier than trying to market a new brand.

Jaguar sells in Asia because it's a famous British premium car brand, if they had decided to change their name to Tiger for the Asian market, they wouldn't be enjoying anything like their current success.

But transversely it would't affect sales in a negative way either would it?

maybe for emotive reasons ppl would stop buying them but a successful brand is a successful brand.. be it Hull City or Hull Tigers

Of course it would, they're buying into the history, the brand that brought us the E-Type and everything that went before. Brand integrity takes decades to build up, it's the brand image that allows brands to charge premium prices.

In your opinion. Your opinion carries no more weight than that of anyone else. I think that many products would attract more attention in the Indian and Chinese markets if they could claim the Tiger as their identity. We'll see when the name change goes through won't we?

Nothing apart from the FA press release which says supporter groups will be consulted. I don't think we'll be ignored, but it is possible.

Yes, but we're not talking about changing from Jaguar to Tiger, we're talking about changing from Hull City to Hull Tigers. Hull City have not brought the E-Type to anyone. We have a history of second rate football and the image of a grim fishing town. That's why it needs changing - even if the reality is we live in a virtual paradise. It's the perception we need to change, and the Tiger symbol could be our most potent tool to do so.
