    From the BBC website:

"Hull City manager Steve Bruce says Assem Allam was misinterpreted in a dispute with supporters over rebranding the club."

"I think what he was saying was he needs the situation to die, not the supporters to go away and die," Bruce told BBC Radio 5 live.

I wonder who came up with that poor idea.

There's a manager in a difficult position. He has my sympathy.

I don't know if this has already been posted. It is the BBC Look North interview and Allam says; "They can City until they die as much as they want."
Again I don't know if this is the controversial interview, but on this one it's clear his meaning is CTWD can continue to demonstrate as much as they want and not "They can die whenever they want."

As I say there may be another interview where he said something else, but if so his words seem very similar in each case. I think (and from SB's own words he seems to think) it is just a language error on Allam's part which (IMO) has been grasped by a headline hungry journalist and a single issue pressure group to suit their own ends.

I would tend to agree with most of this, for anyone to seriously think that Assem Allam has wished death on any of the clubs supporters is quite frankly ludicrous, although the WUM's have latched on and had a field day with it!

"They can City until they die as much as they want."

This is very different to what he was quoted as saying. It's a completely different attitude and should alter people's viewpoints. However, I don't think it makes Steve Bruce's position much easier. He is still caught between two groups. He needs a solution more than most people.

    BBC quoted the Independent:

But Allam told the Independent: "They can die as soon as they want, as long as they leave the club for the majority who just want to watch good football."

I can see how the words are similar and could have been misinterpreted.

Even IF he said I can die as soon as I want I wouldn't take it as an insult.

It would be great to die when we want wouldn't it ?

    I'll have 1st January 2057 age 100

That's interesting. Allam uses very similar points almost word for word in both interviews as if he has prepared his answers for the press. However in one he says; "They can City until they die as much as they want." and in the other the context is:
    "And the chanting?"
"I don't mind 'City till we die'. They can die as soon as they want, as long as they leave the club for the majority who just want to watch good football."
There seems plenty of reason to believe he could have simply been more upset due to tougher questions from the second interviewer and got his English wrong.

It's two separate interviews and one was ages ago. In the most recent one he specifically said we can die when we want and also that we're hooligans and militants. No misquoting there.

Just to correct that point the BBC didn't quote the Independent interview. They had their own BBC Look North interview (below)

He is our best owner ever and a breath of fresh air to previous owners apart from the great HN.

What a great season we are having and its all down to Assem Allam .

Roll on City v Stoke ....

What's to say he is not right about the name change....

Even if he is wrong at least he is trying ..

Let's face it the song should be City till we are crap again for the majority of those singing it.

You can't con me with you Till I Die bullshit because again the majority singing it never supported the team when we was ****.

The things to rightfully take offence from are being labelled hooligans and asked to leave the club. That's what everyone should be up in arms about, yet everyone's more bothered about the "die as soon as they want" comment, which isn't wishing death on supporters despite the twisting of it by many. I can't see any way that can credibly be interpreted as Dr. Allam wishing death on anyone.

If he said "I hope they die" then you might have a point.

    ^^^ This

Even if you take the 'die' comments as a mis-interpretation (which is being very generous) he still called us hooligans/militants and suggested we shouldn't support our own club anymore, the guy needs some serious PR training.

I've seen some ****e written about this.

The one that takes the biscuit was "what if the good Doctor has no intention of changing the name and merely did it to whip up the abysmal atmosphere at what was previously named the Premier Leagues quietest ground the last time in there. I'm watching Sundays game back and Dr. Allam's wry knowing smile every time the camera panned to him certainly suggested his brilliant plan was working. The fact that he's done it at the detriment of his personal reputation proves the kind of guy he is. Genius!"

I think Steve Bruce is right. Assem Allam meant all those City supporters who don't like the change of name should give up their attachment to Hull City and find something else to do on a Saturday as we're not welcome at the KC. Nothing to do with wishing us dead, all to do with wishing we didn't exist. Its his club and he can do whatever he likes. He has generously offered us our money back and we should take it. Unfortunately we are still Hull City and will remain so until the FA agree any change of name.

I agree with your main point and there is no excuse for him labelling demonstrators as hooligans, but when you listen to the guy's faulty English and the fact he gets exasperated when put under pressure it's reasonable to assume he could have made an error in his English regarding the main quote that CTWD and the press have exploited.

The only way I can interpret the "die as soon as they want" comment is "I don't care what they do". There is no way he's wishing death on anyone no matter how you look at it.
