DL once again exhibiting mindless agreement with others without checking his facts. <laugh>

Maybe Levy is just waiting for Jol to get sacked.

I think Levy was sucked in by the 'mini mourinho' , as when Chelsea signed him he was regarded as being the best up and coming manager.

Chelsea sack him, Levy sacks Redknapp and whoever gave Levy advice helped convince him if Avb gets it right then we have a young manager to build a young squad over the coming seasons.

Plus Levy wanted to go down the Dof route and I couldn't see Redknapp working with Baldini.

On paper a good plan but in reality a mistake. Levy will now be sat there thinking of possible replacements soon.!

But as with Avb, one season doesn't prove anything. Nor does 13 games and if Martinez goes on a bad run then the people claiming Martinez has proved himself, will go quiet.

I agree. I genuinely believe that's why Abramovich appointed him but they're complete opposites in reality.

Levy and AVB both had a common enemy in Abramovich & Chelsea and perhaps that's what brought the two closer together. It's well known how annoyed Levy was with the pursuit of Modric and how aggrieved AVB felt at being sacked at Chelsea and not being allowed to oversee his "project". Understandable as he gave up everything really.

I'm a bit confused as to why you're still going on about AVB, and now Redknapp. We were a Champions league side once under 'Arry but what's it got to do with the price of fish? I wasn't claiming AVB was better, or performing better than Redknapp or Martinez or anyone.

Lets stick to the things I've actually said Martinez has a lot to prove and if we sack AVB(who also has a lot to prove) then I wouldn't want us to go for Martinez, I'd rather someone with more experience, or failing that Laudrup as he has a great knowledge of football across Europe and has shown a great tactical flexibilty from what I've seen. Martinez took Wigan into relegation battle after relegation battle by sticking rigidly to his principles on the game. I admire him for it but I wouldn't be impressed if we replaced AVB, who'd presumably be sacked for sticking to his principles on passing, possession football for another manager who might do the same.

You're arguing with yourself on this one

Your lengthy reply says I'm probably not. You have tried to justify AVB's appointment which is the whole point of my post.

Do we have any scouts checking the lower leagues for talent instead of walking around Europe with open checkbook in hand looking at other teams throwouts?

Come to that,do we have any scouts?

I haven't partaken in this thread, or indeed read the whole thing but some people suggesting Klopp as a replacement must be off their rockers. Why would someone leave arguably the 2nd best team in Europe currently to come to underperforming, non-CL Spurs?

I imagine the cost of sacking AVB will be pretty high. I don't think it will happen

No one believes we can get Klopp, more he is the type of manager we need and fans admire his style. There's a chance he will leave Dortmund in the next year or two as Dortmund constantly lose their star players and he may want a challenge elsewhere.

But this is why it's important we don't panic and rush into hiring any old manager, as if Avb leaves we should we setting out a clear target to replace him.

Mancini was always going to be sacked last year as City targeted Pellegrini as his successor and waited until the end of the season.

But unfortunately Klopp being our manager is nothing more then a dream!

Hey Boss - have you seen Klopp make any obvious mistakes? Or does he just do all the common sense things that the fans can understand?

I'd hope the former or we may as well save a pile of dosh and make you our new manager, if AVB goes

Shall we start saying '' when Avb goes '' as we're being too kind by saying If.

Save a pile of dosh, good joke as a fan (turned) manager would command a hefty salary, although we may save dosh another way in keeping those players who aren't top four quality but helped us get top four, playing them and then no need to sign wasters from abroad!

Well he's not immortal so I guess when is more accurate.
Are you really saying that the fringe players who were our weak links in the top four seasons are going to be relied on in the future against all our rivals who have strengthened

He might be. I think until he dies we have to assume he is immortal

No, it was said with a wry smile. I'm saying we don't always have to assume players from abroad are better options then players who are proven in this league. The risk taking on Lamela and Eriksen is understandable but Ironically our biggest rival from last year made minor adjustments. We make wholesale changes and for the type of player we target, it's counter productive.

Yes the upheaval has been too large and has certainly caused disruption but there were really only two other options - leave the money in the bank or sign fewer more expensive players. I can't see how keeping the cash would help much - it would allow us to bring more players in come January but that is usually a mug's game. Signing three £35m players might well have worked better this season but is much more risky as one or even two might turn out to be duds and in any case I'm not sure who was available in that category.

I actually think our squad is pretty well balanced now with 2 or 3 plausible options in most positions who can be brought in without weakening the team or upsetting the balance. I really do think we'll see this team improve dramatically over the rest of the season.

We've been looking at Alex McCarthy and Will Hughes...but so have several other teams.
