Yeah but it can't be great for a young lad if their Dad is telling them to do something, and is feeling bitter about how the club has acted. Its bound to rub off.

Why are people so keen to get rid of Alex? He's ****ing quality and is only going to get better. Just for once, I wouldn't mind if we kept a great academy talent for one more year, please Nicola?

I'd love to see him (our own product from the academy) rip the Championship apart with us.

Cannot understand people wanting to sell him.

Completely agree!!

Call yourselves fans wanting a player off!

He won't leave!
We are building a team for the Premier League and I think NC and NA would agree when I say we should be holding the current squad together and not dismantling it like at Cardiff <doh>

Yes, if we get £12 million up front i'd sell him as well. Problem is we wont get £12 million up front. It will be £3-5 million max up front and the rest on the never never. And I can't think of a player as good as AOC is at the moment who would be available for £3 million (especially if every club thinks were minted as it is and now have another 12 million to blow). In this market £3 million get you Jack **** (currently playing for Scunthorpe). And we don't just need to replace AOC, we need another 4-5 players if we want to really challenge next season. Sell AOC for a reputed £12 million and their transfer fee's suddenly double. As for the United swap deal, Obertan is rubbish, nowhere near as good as AOC, and wouldn't drop a division (reckon he'd head back to France). As for Wes Brown, we couldn't afford his wages (50K per week), and he has premier league sides interested.

The Chamberlain bit is on, but this highlighted bit is very untrue. Jack Cork is rumoured to be costing around £800k. Last season, Lambert cost £1m, Fonte cost £1.3m, while Lallana and Chamberlain were academy lads and Schneiderlin cost £1.3m in 08/09. That's 5 top-end Championship players, none of whom cost £3m-£5m. If you know where to look and know who has the talent to step up, they don't need to be that expensive.

It makes no sense, both financially and for football reasons to willingly sell Alex at this time. His current value is determined by his potential, not by what he has achieved so far. If we keep him, we are in a no lose situation, because we will benefit from having him playing for us and his value will rise as his experience level increases. Remember, he is only 17, at his age Adam Lallana was nowhere near the level that Alex is now. Now if Alex has his heart set on a move, then, as was the case with Theo, there is not much more the club can do except get the best possible transfer fee for him, but you only have to see the relative value of Gareth Bale to know that it is better to keep him for as long as possible.

To be fair though, we can hardly moan about those players mentioned by Matt above, they are key players for us and will be in the coming season, and, looking back - most of them were a bargain and would be sold for much more if that situation arised.

If Cortese doesn't accept a bid, he won't go. With him being under contract, I presume it's that simple? If Alex was unhappy, I guess he could force a move? He certainly didn't look it against Walsall.

This is one that's going to rumble on all summer unfortunately, into January and possibly beyond if he stays.

Cortese's job is just to get as much out of Arsenal/United/whoever as possible. I'd set the price at £15 million and see what happens, like I've said a million times before: win-win.

Happy days :D

Think he signed a 3-year deal back in 2010?????? So about 2 years left.
