If the rumours are true and we've been offered 12m for him i personally think that is a great deal for us. Think about it, he's only played in league one, and his best games have been against weak opposition, i.e Dagenham and such Dont get me wrong i think he's quality, but no way near worth 12million, We got 10million for walcott and and overall 7million for bale. so i think 12m for chamberlain is an excellent deal for us. And im pretty sure most of that money would be spent back into buying new players.
Agreed. Would love to see him stay and develop, which he would do so quicker and better in the Championship - but 12 million is outrageous. We could replenish our entire squad with that!!
Imagine we're back in the Premiership (mmm nice!), how much would we have to pay to get Oxo (or similar player) to join our club. However, I do agree that 10 million+ is a tipping point (letting another club take the risk that this is as good as he's going to get), especially with a sell-on clause. I would still be delighted if he stayed though.. would make everyone realise that we are a force to be reckoned with.
Our squad is pretty good already, it doesn't need replenishing, certainly not £12million worth. A few signings to freshen things up definately, but we can do that without selling AOC. He is a big part of the team and his value to us can't be measured in pounds. While he stilll wants to play for us and honour his contract, I've seen no indication that he doesn't, we should keep hold of him unless the offer is seriously stupid. BTW, this doesn't need it own thread, there are quite a few others also.
Why are people so keen to get rid of Alex? He's ****ing quality and is only going to get better. Just for once, I wouldn't mind if we kept a great academy talent for one more year, please Nicola? I'd love to see him (our own product from the academy) rip the Championship apart with us. Cannot understand people wanting to sell him.
£12,000,000 is a shed load of money for a player that age. It makes good business senceto take the money and re-invest, into the academy and playing squad. For all we know, he could be at his max potential. Not all players continuously improve....
Selling him for 12 million wouldn't necessarily be bad business. I mean, we all know plenty of youth players who look good as teenagers but never push on. Or he could break his leg in the first game next season and never come back.
Oh god, what about Lallana? He's blossoming ATM, playing superb football, but there's no telling whether he's maxed out yet, or whether he's going to get both his legs snapped in the coming months. Let's sell him to make sure we get a decent fee.
Lallana's a different situation, he's much older. I know from previous experience what aninjury can do. I would be playing football at a VERY high standard had I not suffered a horrific injury at 16. You quite clearly know very little about the footballing side of football.
Ah, I see. You're looking at it from Alex Chamberlain's perspective in terms of him needing to secure a big money move in order to both secure his future and a higher level of football. I'm looking at it from a fans' perspective surprisingly, so no, I don't want to sell him. And I do know about the footballing side of football as I've been playing since I was 8.
I'd rather he stayed but standing in somebodies way, especially as he'd probably be in Arsenals team in a couple of years, seems harsh. If he was loaned back to us for next season, it would be ideal all round really. £12 million for a player many knew little about this time last year is fantastic. That will fund a push for promotion either this season or next.
I'm sure, that unlike his father, AOC wouldn't regard staying at Saints for another season as a catastrophe. He might be tempted by a big Premiership club, but he's only a kid. At that age, your family and mates are everything.
bale sold : because we needed the money. walcott sold: because we needed the money. did we want them to go? NO. did they need to go? YES. wouldnt it be nice to keep hold of a young player, who lets be honest i love watching, and is a local boy, albeit from portsmouth, because we dont need the money, and therefore we should only sell if we get £15 million+?
looks like we've got a mystic meg on the board! hell, i would have been a world famous chef if only my mother had taught me how to cook!
