No disrespect, but does your wife have an annoying scouse accent, or a tolerable one? Some of their accents just really grate on me.
She actually hardly has one after 50 years over here but she can do a brilliant true scouser accent....has us all in fits!!
Yeah Neville's done ok, good to see some northern pundits, it's just pushing it too far with Carragher
LOL...I emigrated when i was 23 in 1962....so "retired mobster"..nope. I was working at Reckitts on Dansom Lane for 600 quid a year after graduation so figured I could do better somewhere else. Got on a cargo ship in Hull headed for Montreal. The 4500 dollars i got for my first job at Pilkington Glass in Toronto seemed like a kings ransom. The Scouser followed me a year later. Those were the days!!
Bloody hell Canada! I hope you never listen to a broadcast of "war of the worlds" - you'll be heading for the bunker. It's a rumour and almost certainly untrue. All this panic about hurting Dr. Allam's feelings has made you quite intemperate. Even the most critical on this board who oppose CTWD don't actually (in the main), support the name change. Where on earth did you get the idea that those against are some kind of minority who will "lose what remaining support they have"?
Seems to be a far better plan than the one used in an A League match in Sydney earlier this season. After flares were lit during the match and a steward slightly burned as he attempted to stop one rolling down a stairway, a thorough review of CCTV footage revealed that the day before the match a maintenance worker at the stadium was observed with the flares and hiding them under a seat in the stand. He lost his job and was banned from A League matches for several years and the police are still considering other possible criminal charges.
Where you at Reckitts in mid 1960? My husband came there for an interview for a Perfumery Chemist position after post-grad in London. He also went to interviews at Smith and Nephew and JH Fenner. All jobs offered were around 600 quid/annum. He ended up finding a job paying 800 quid in Lancaster.
I can't agree with this view at all. Why is scouse not a legitimate accent? We have to listen to southern prats on telly most of the time and I find them far more irritating. Nobody really says 'rum' instead of 'room' in real life do they? If people said they didn't like hearing Indian accents and they shouldn't be allowed on telly everyone would moan and say it's racist, but it's allowed for scousers?
I love Scouser accents. Geordies, the Ridings of Yorkshire, Cumbria/Westmorland, Cornwall, even Manc. But not London/SE/Home Counties/Posh 'Received English' nor Brum/Black Country.
