Hundreds have been killed building stadiums in Qatar so if that's not good enough of a reason to call it off, Brazil will have no problems.

The way that migrant workers are treated is despicable, especially the fact that you can't leave the country without permission of your employer. Mind you in some countries women can't have passports or leave without their menfolks permission....if that isn't enslavement, I don't know what is! If black people were treated the same way as women in some Arab countries, there would be boycotts....but of course they have oil!!

Perhaps Nicola is out of the Liebherr empire, may be coming to us full time now that we are on our feet, but there isn't enough information to do anything but speculate what is going on unless you know better.

Would seem to me like Katarina is just taking over the duties that Nicola has been doing up until now. The Mali Group possibly needed stability and guidance after the death of Markus Liebherr and Cortese provided that. I wouldn't think his connection is in anyway severed, unless he has asked to be released, and I wouldn't think that either.

EDIT: On Pat Rice. Blimey, the bloke has been around forever. His professional career started the same time as I became a football fan. I wish him well.

Best I could grasp when it initially happened: some bits of the Mali Group empire were on unstable footing, and Cortese and Marcel Werner Hehli were installed on the board, with Katarina stepping down. Hehli appears to have been handling the liquidation of a couple subsidiaries; that process finished this summer, with him leaving Mali Group thereafter.

Purely a guess, but Cortese may have been there as a trusted placeholder while the restructuring was taking place, and with that having completed the Liebherr family is able to resume direct control over the board. The second name being added is a business consultant with membership on at least one other board, so perhaps a longer-term appointment rather than one on a mission.
