Off Topic OT: Computer Game Thread!

  1. I think its too sluggish. It some ways that makes it better because you can no longer just put pacey players in your side to be better but it is also extremely frustrating if, like me, you like to play a fast passing game and each player takes an eternity to control the ball and pass it on! The changes to transfers in career mode are annoying too, you can't see the overall stats for players so you have to scout them first; again that has its advantages and disadvantages. It is more realistic as you can't just go an by a new team in one window but its annoying if you don't intend to play a management style game but want to be able to make alterations.

I've played nearly every version of Fifa, I don't normally play anything else, but this one has not got much attention from me.

Ive never really gotten into fifa, I like them obv as its football but its always been just play a few matches at my mates or whatever. Had a fifa about 3 yrs ago and did a bit on that, online etc but never really bothered since

Been COD and F (not that youd notice <doh>) past few years

And other strategy games which I like as well

  3. The last couple of versions have been better until this one. Prior to that it wasn't hard enough <ok>

  4. Fifa is going the same route as CM and FM; its suppose to be a game but its getting too complicated to just "sit and play"

I would get games for ps3 now and get a ps4 next tear.

Seems the ps4 has had a few issues and its a given the xbox one will be broken within weeks as thats what it specialises in.

Whats this about paying to go online? It part of ps+?

Fifas been **** since 98 when it was actually fun. The whole point of a game is for it to be fun.

I'll be honest and agree with the comment on fifa.

IMO FIFA 10 was the last sit and play game. You could casually sit down, pick a god awful team and clog someone playing the best side and play for the 0-0... or you could go play a game and enjoy it either... I confess i did love being a right hard case on fifa.

now though.. you get a yellow or red for nowt, can't kick the keeper or go a really good clogging job on a player and there are 500 combos to learn just to have a game.

Its not about hard to play, its about having fun. for some thats being really challenged and getting into all these moves and for others its clogging your mates best player and laughing about it.

    go figure.....

FM is the same, its not added real depth par se, the interviews for example are monotonous... but they have basically ballsed up the thing to the point where you have to go in and tinker with 1000 settings to get one formation to work and for me it spoils it. the addition of agents fees and signing on fees etc has also basically blown budgets a bit and so it does get harder to just put a team together at all.

in shrot this is all fine for the ardent 8 hour stint guy but when you grow a piar and find you might get an hour or so you find you get nowhere fast.

  9. The 98 version was far too easy. I used to play as Stags against the Man Utd's, Barcelona's, etc on the hardest setting and still win by three or four goals. Play with two wide men, put crosses in and you would score seven times out of ten.

It went **** between 2007 and 2009 before they re-did the game engine which made it much better. Gone too far the other way now.

Thats the point. Fifa is no longer pick up and play. Its not fun its terrible.

Infact I take that back, its quite fun on the mobile.

Fun doesnt mean easy either, just something you can put on and enjoy for half an hour without having to learn a million things.

I was a complete Fifa novice before Fifa 12, and only decided to convert as all my mates were playing it.

I'm not one for reading the manual and doing fancy tricks etc so my style was based on passing and possession. Fifa 12 really suited me (I was playing as Napoli) and the game seemed quite slow (again, this worked my advantage).

Fifa 13 was quicker - which meant pr*cks who soley rely on fast wingers would do well.

From your description Gez, sounds like Fifa 14 could be more my style!

  13. You not liking it doesn't make it not fun (bit of twisted English there <laugh>). Obviously people do enjoy playing it otherwise it wouldn't be the most popular game!

You see, I think some people will see things being easy as more fun, especially if only playing against mates. I didn't like the older Fifa's as much because they were too easy, I enjoyed the more recent ones until 2014. Each to their own.

Ive always preferred pes which was a much harder game to master over all.

I'll have you know I was the 2005 fifa champion amongst my mates. Didnt even own the game but still reigned supreme.

  18. PEs was always slower in the older versions. Not played it since the 2007 or 2008 version

Am I right in thinking that PES offered to 'player mode' option first? (where you start as a youth player and work your way up)

Its quite sad theres only two football games tbh.

Ones a marketing machine as well. Its the apple/cod of football games. Not a good thing.

Cant remember the last pes advert I saw.

The reviews tell a similar story, the ones paid for by ea are clear to see, not a good word about pes. The fair ones tend to have them equal in many cases with each title have its good and bad points. Much like iPhone reviews against android.... Unless its Samsung.... They also pay.

Eventually fifa will kill off pro. It out sells it massively. Then all ea have to do is release the same game every year.... Twice a year occasionally and watch the same people buy it.

Football games are ideal candidates for annual dlc imo.
