I was just saying because it was pretty negative to predict any less, 5 points seemed pretty balanced to me.

Last season you were lucky to get a point at WHL, even luckier the year before and that was with Fergie as manager. Unless RVP regains interest and you sort out the defence it'll be tough for you to win there. I'm not sure Moyes is brave enough to go to those kind of places and play to win. Against City he was too bold and tactically schooled by Pellegrini and against Liverpool he was far far too get negative.

I'd disagree with that, the fans down the Lane loved him, perhaps not as much as Jol but he still had a great amount of support. For about 5 games running the chants of "Harry Redknapp, we want you stay" rang around the whole ground. He always acknowledged the crowd when we said "Harry give us a wave" which was usually around twice a game (when winning), AVB has never acknowledged the crowd when we've sung that, which is why I think we sing Freunds name a lot more than what we probably would've done had AVB given a wave once in a while. Sounds silly but things like that go down well with fans when the players/ staff acknowledge them, it's what helps build the relationship.

That rings true. The south end loved to chant Hugo!, Hugo! and even USA!, USA!, for the keepers. Clearly everyone should make a reasonable effort to play up to the crowd.

Why should a manager have to earn the fans' respect, except in unusual circumstances?
Surely he should start with it and have to throw it away or is that just my outlook?

If he's been named manager of Spurs he has already done enough to earn my respect.

Absolutely, little things such as a wave or a fist pump means so much to the fans.

Zokora probably had the best relationship with our fans since I've been going. Literally the whole of Park Lane would stay after the final whistle if we'd won to wait for Didier to come over and do his little dance to the "Di-di-er-Zo-ko-ra, do, do, doooo". It's no coincidence that his name was sung a lot during matches too.

Surely talking about possibly replacing AVB if he fails this season as he did last (and right now who, out of people who have watched Spurs this season, thinks we're gonna finish above Man Utd and Liverpool, playing like we have?) is no more ridiculous than actually wanting Redknapp out DURING a season where he's secured fourth again, the only manager to have done that at Spurs in the EPL era?

As I recall the majority on here had lots of great ideas about how a younger, more tactically-astute manager was definitely needed.

So if we needed a change of boss when we were actually hitting our targets then AVB must be very lucky to still have a job. Hope for his sake that those flukey penalties keep coming. I say "his sake" cos repeated results papering over the cracks of clueless, toothless performances will not help Spurs one bit.

I personally think that AVB has to stay until well into next season at least but just asking the question is nowhere near as ridiculous as the "who should be our manager next year?" thread which was here towards the end of the 11/12 season.

Should not be asked at all yet, until we know for sure how this team will end up playing,,with so many new players it's going to take time, and the last thing they need is added pressure.

I remember fans singing "He plays on the left/right" giving Redknapp some stick for his tactics. I think there was a fairly sizable chunk of Spurs fans that never quite took to Redknapp and I felt like he had to be defended even though we were doing well. The "we want you to stay" stuff was when we were 10 or so points ahead of Arsenal, I don't recall any such chants in the last game or two.

I don't disagree with you on the first paragraph but who wanted Redknapp out during that season? There was lots of discussions about tactics but I don't remember people clamouring for a young manager to come in, let alone a majority. Maybe I remember it wrongly but I'm pretty sure there were a few polls after Redknapp got sacked and Moyes seemed to be the favourite with few wanting AVB.

Anyway, I was just saying that he didn't have the same level of rapport with the fans that Jol did. Considering what Redknapp did for us, I never felt he got the credit from some fans.

It's ridiculous because of the timing. If there was the same for Redknapp then I'm sure it wasn't warmly received, I don't remember any such thing though. Maybe there was some anger after we blew our lead on Arsenal but discussing sacking him whilst he was on target to get us into the Champions League? I must've missed that.

Much as I loved Redknapp, I have to side with YV on this one. I remember posting after the Newcastle 5-0 game, how atonished I was at the volume of support for Harry. That was the "Harry Redknapp, we want you to stay" game. I asked at the time, where did that volume of support for the guy come from ?

I always felt that loud vocal support for Harry, was yelled through griotted teeth, and was often more an obligation rather than genuine passionate support for the guy.

That was because he kept playing Bale on the right, which at the time was ineffective, though ironically last season, it was the centre and right that Bale done most of his damage.

That was because Hodgson had got the England job by then, so there was no need. There wasn't any talk of him being sacked at that moment too I don't think.

The poll definitely had the option "Redknapp" for manager the following year. He had not yet been sacked. I believe it was during the season though might be wrong. I also believe that those that voted for Harry to stay we're outnumbered by those calling for a change.

Managers shouldn't worry about the respect or otherwise of fans. Managers should be strong willed (and thick skinned) enough to make their own decisions - however unpopular. They are in a far better position to consider form, fitness, attitudes, tactics etc. AVB shouldn't be bothered about the crowd's reaction 9 games into a PL season when his fledgling team have taken 19 points already. It would be remarkable if a group of new players, many of whom have never played in the PL, suddenly started playing fluent, eye-catching football when they've only played a handful of games together. The fact that their grinding out wins should be enough - I'd take that at present.
