I can only see him here for at least this season and the next, and next season is when he really has to deliver.

He needs to clarify his comments on our fans, that really does cut both ways, there was an anxiety in the crowd because the crowd were anxious. You can't decide to not be anxious. On the other hand, fans need to get behind the team as much as possible, so I see his point. But no good comes of turning on the supporters. Especially as it gives Piskie at al something else to beat us with.

"The size of the task at hand for Arsenal is huge. They can't afford to lose in Dortmund."

No guarantee that Napoli will avoid defeat at Dortmund either.
I suspect that the Goons will be equal on points with Napoli, who will have to win the
decider (due to the "head to head" being in the Goons' favour) .

I'm not certain Avb could clarify his comments without escalating them further as some of what he said, such as '' the victory belongs to the players, they did it themselves, '' was too extreme.

He is causing the anxiety, it goes back to his first game when the fans actually booed, he's never been properly accepted, so yes I guess there is a chance he could be gone soon, yet the discussing of candidates still sits on the ridiculous side, as it makes us look a tad spolit, when to everyone outside the club we're in a healthy position.

He only gave us 5 points! <laugh>

Frankly I'll be disappointed if we don't beat both Newcastle and United at home.

    You have to earn it.

He didn't do that with one good season at Porto and half a season at Chelsea.

With Harry you knew he had been around the block, or Fergy had won loads in scotland and been an international manager before utd.

AVB has 2 full seasons of management under his belt, that is why he doesn't just command respect.

If he wins us a trophy or finishes top 4 with better football the fans will love him no doubt. <ok>

I'm not saying I want him to go per say... I want him to prove himself and win us over with Top 4 and trophies.

But there is a fair bit of frustration on this board and the Facebook page (which is also full of idiots granted) so I was just testing the water.

You can always go for number 1 Mr. Moderator. <cool>

Yeah fair point SG about commanding respect, Avb is a young man aswell as a young manager. He is someone that is constantly fighting to earn respect, he failed at Chelsea, he failed to earn a promotion when employed by Mourinho.

Now he is causing a issue with fans.

Some people just have a personality that is hard to engage with, that's AVB's main problem, his desperation for respect for his methods and management style.

  13. 1.

I wouldn't want Redknap back, whatever may happen to us under AVB.

We've got some fantastic players, many of whom haven't found their feet yet. Be patient, lads.

This is where things were completely different for AVB and Harry.

Harry joined us after making our worse start in the league for god knows how many years, we had 2 points from 8 games you know! In that season he took us from bottom to 8th, quite remarkable when at the time things were looking bleak, he took over when essentially there wasn't much pressure on him as we were already bottom and were hoping more so than expecting him to turn it around. Season after he went and done the impossible (well... Improbable perhaps) and got us 4th after that dramatic win at City, thus pretty much putting Harry in a sort of God status among fans (for a while at least). 5th followed after that but in that season we had a wonderful experience of CL football where some of the performances and results will live long in the memory of Spurs fans. After that it was 4th again but the whole Chelsea thing ruined it, during the season we did throw away 13 points where a lot was blamed on Harry's link to the England job. Harry was sacked (wrongly in my opinion) but he was sacked having done an extremely good job overall in his tenure as Spurs boss, Tottenham had become a real force again thanks to him and I'd like to think everyone will remember him for that rather than his constant media antics which many found annoying and off putting and partly to blame for poor results.

So the search for the new manager began and the person hired was a man who'd just been sacked by one of our most fierce rivals. During AVB's time with Chelsea he received a monumental amount of stick from Chelsea fans due to the way he isolated players and played poor football, he came across very arrogant in press interviews and his poor results with them led to him lasting just 3/4 of the season.

AVB took over Spurs after we'd recently sacked what was essentially our best manager in years and at a time where the club was playing some of it's best football (for the most part) and expecting to really kick on after having finished 4th again (just without the CL footy though). So not only did AVB have to win over the fans anyway as lets be honest, he hardly came with the best of reputations but he also had the job of trying to better Harry.

The pressure on AVB to succeed has always been massive and he never had the leniency Redknapp had. Redknapp started off with the fans hoping, AVB started off with the fans expecting, whether that's right or wrong I won't comment on that but he came into a position where Spurs fans' expectations of the club had greatly risen due to Harry's work and so it was never going to be easy for him.

In my opinion AVB really does need to finish in the top 4 OR win a trophy this season, I've already said in a previous comment that I'd be prepared to wait one more season if we don't, providing the signs are good but for AVB's sake, to really win over the fans he has to bring some sort of success. It's no secret that fans are still divided on him, I initially was very much anti-AVB, now I'm just neutral, though his comments about fans yesterday really irked me but there are still many out there that quite frankly don't like him, don't get me wrong he has a great amount of love from lots of fans too but there just seems to be a 50-50 split which isn't ideal for a manager. Winning a trophy or getting us CL qualification will almost certainly gain him a lot more love!

Moyes won't stand a chance of winning away from home against you lot IMO. That's the type of game you need where bygones will be bygones and everybody will be up for it. Newcastle is the type of game that could be cagey and bring a subdued atmosphere.

Lukaku hates AVB so I wouldn't be surprised to see him play like a man possessed on Sunday.

Your comments kind of say it all about United though. The fact you'd be disappointed not beat them at home says a lot and is probably the same way everyone who plays against them will feel.

It's just the timing that seemed strange to me. I know it wasn't exactly a classic but it was 3 points that took us to 4th and it seemed a bit negative to start talking about if we finish outside the top 4.

If we don't win a trophy or qualify for the top 4 you won't see me losing any sleep if we sack AVB, for the record. Maybe we could have a "if AVB gets us qualified for the CL, are we going to cut him some slack?" thread :p

Not sure I'd be any more popular as manager, I'm one of those clueless bastards that actually likes AVB :D

I don't remember 'Arry ever enjoying a particularly good relationship with our fans either, to be honest. Sure when things were going well the negative people quietened but they were always there to criticise him again as soon as something went wrong though, I felt.

It was certainly nowhere near the unanimous cult figure status that Jol had with our fans.
