If AVB fails this year to get CL or win a trophy what would you like to see happen.....

1) Given another year - Regardless
2) Given another year if the team shows promise, or is playing better football
3) Replaced by: Martinez
4) Replaced by: Laudrup
5) Replaced by: Benitez
6) Replaced by: Mancini
7) Replaced by: Redknapp
8) Replaced by someone else

I would have made this a pole, but I don't know how.
 
I've always maintained the fact I'd have Redknapp back in a heart beat, so 7 would always be my choice IF AVB did leave/ was sacked but I know that'll never happen due to the sour relationship between him and Levy.

I think it depends on how we've played throughout the season and how far we've finished from our targets. If we're playing like we are now (and not getting results) then I'd certainly want a change, if the football has improved and we're playing with the promise that we're getting even better and we've only missed out on 4th by a few points then I'd like AVB to have one more season. Someone has mentioned on here before (apologies can't remember who) that they believed AVB would need 3 seasons to really get the team going and so I'd be willing to agree with that.

However if AVB again decides to have another dig, he can **** off now for all I care.

What a peculiar thing to say.

Any reason why 3 seasons? I think after 2 full seasons you should have a clear idea of where the team is going.

I wish I could remember who it was, I think the reasoning was basically:

1st year - Taken over a new time so definitely needs time.
2nd year - Has made/ started to make team his own with signings but would need them to gel.
3rd year - Team is gelled, business begins.

Personally I think the transition from 2nd to 3rd year could be done within 1st to 2nd but it's up for debate.
 
Surely no Spurs fan wants yet more change?

Unless you can add £40M players at the drop of a hat, the key to developing a team/squad of predominently young and relatively inexperienced players is continuity. AVB was seen as the man for the job and he should be persevered with - as should Moyes at Utd - even if they fall short of expectations in the next couple of seasons.

That's easier said though.

Not reaching expectations for us, which is basically 4th, can result in loss of key players. If we don't get 4th this time around, can we guarantee that the likes of Lloris, Vertonghen, Sandro etc will want to stay another season?

It's like a vicious cycle because IF we don't get CL football, it's pretty much inevitable we'll lose at least one key player and so that knocks us a step backwards.
 
I remember when SD suggested Martinez replace Redknapp and I took the piss, laughs on me as Everton are playing exciting football while we're Watching complete crap but we can frame the league table of last year for the record points total.
 
But changing the manager, SoS, has such a knock on effect.

Usually, the new manager will bring in his own backroom staff. He will want to bring in players he wants to work with - especially managers of the kind you have mentioned who trust players they have worked with before. He will have his own views on the current playing staff and particularly those who have recently arrived at the club, who he wouldn't have signed or he doesn't think are progressing or will progress as AVB thought they would. And there will be players, as you say, who want CL football, who see the change of manager as their excuse to leave too.

And bear in mind, this team is a work in progress already, so I can't imagine a new manager would have any qualms about changing it again if it's not performed as hoped - which is the inference from you posting the thread. So wholesale changes result and you are back to square one.

Chelsea and City change managers often, but the transition is a lot smoother when you have a number of "go to" players to help you out. Spurs have lost Bale. The ones remaining are mainly defensive players, which would mean trying to build a team which initially is hard to beat - exactly where you are at present with AVB!

I'm between 1 & 2:

Given another year unless he continues to lose the fans or loses the dressing room. If fans continue to turn against AVB, he has to go. We, along with the sponsors and investors, pay the bills. In which case, us fans will IMO probably end up with ourselves to blame for promoting chaos, backbiting and an eventual return to mediocrity. Not to say we don't have every right to do that if that's what we feel like doing.

Besides, I have a hunch the manager of our dreams is three down the road, so it's best to sack AVB and two more managers ASAP.

Sky actually pay most of the bills RW&B. We are small beer these days.
 
I'm for tying to have a bit of continuity. Partly because I think it's good for a club in and of itself. Shame cos I was never into the idea of AVB and am less into him now than ever before. I am hugely underwhelmed by what he's done with this team.

But a whole squad and set-up has been built around him now. He wanted a DOF so now we have one (and we'd have to sack him too perhaps if we needed to be bailed out by a proven EPL manager again - one who is not used to working with a DOF). He wanted this huge turnover in squad make-up bringing in a shed-load of players with no EPL experience. So I just can't see Levy losing patience with his little project any time soon.

Ever since Levy has taken over he has wanted a glamourous Euro-manager and a DOF (and the inevitable huge turn over in playing staff which generally follows such an appointment).

The only good appointments which he's made (Jol and Redknapp) came as a result of having to have an emergency bail-out from the disasters that came from such an approach - they were almost forced upon him. Oh well - third time lucky.

Maybe Big Sam will be free once we need him?

And as for Redknapp turning up again: I think the last thing Levy wants is Harry turning up and basically saying "What the hell have you done with my team and why the hell did you buy this lot? Look - I'll say the Argentinian kid is a triffic player to the press but get 20m for his ASAP - we're gonna need a clear-out and I'm gonna need some players who can play in this league." And I for one would think that Harry was spot on with that assessment.

I said from the start any manager needs 3 years to make the team his own, judge him after that. The first year he played with Redknapps team, This year he is building but many players that he signed will take a good year to settle. I am as unhappy as anyone regarding our style of play but that could be down to gelling/settling issues.

However, he is pretty silly attacking our fans, agreeing with them would be better. He must understand why we are unhappy. Winning is not everything.
 
to be fair to AVB he's been tasked to winning,doesn't matter how to the owners,so i will give him time,once the team get used to winning games they might have lost in the past,then prehaps the flair will come

I remember how poor we looked this time last year with every attack breaking down with Dempsey and sig. But as the season went on, that changed.

Same will happen this season IMO. - but this time he'll have better/his own players.

Give it time.... And hope the football improves fast!
 
Do we think Levy is unhappy with AVB?

I very much doubt it. We are plodding along...not playing beautiful football. We are certainly a work in progress. Yet we sit 3 points off the top. I breathe a sigh of huge relief after matches like yesterday...but I'm happy ill take 3 points off the top for now.
