Fosse - It's strange we we tend to look for other teams to suffer as a means to an end, rather than just worry about our own results. I suppose it's just the reality of this unequal Premier League competition where the failure of some leads to the survival of others.

The teams you mentioned are prime candidates to struggle this year and despite their decent start, I think you could lump in Hull in there as well. No disrespect to them, but they've got a half dozen of their points with very tight 1-0 penalty home wins against Norwich and West Ham, neither of whom are brilliant opposition - I can't see that lasting.
 
Yes i think we will be the masters of our own destiny. We look a very organised team, and i dont really see these mini leagues that everyone seems to go on about apart from the top 6, and i think there will be a few more teams challenging for top berths in the years to come. Hopefully we will be one of those. My gut feeling is we will finish mid table, but i think we should have a good tilt at the FA Cup and see if we can get a Euro spot.

I think that away win in Newcastle suggests they've got a chance. I see them as a similar outfit to us, but we've got more flair in attack and are a bit better player for player. Hull were VERY lucky to get that Pen and should have conceded a pen at the other end against WH to be fair.

I'm pretty confident we'll finish above Hull, CP and Sunderland. Fulham have the players to go on a run but we certainly don't need to be scared of them, Norwich or Stoke either. Newcastle probably need to keep Ben Arfa fit and on form if they want to stay well out of it.

I think Sparky might be trying to change too much too quick at Stoke. They, like Fulham, haven't been fixtures in this division by getting beat at home by the bottom 12 or so clubs.

If we keep doing what we're doing, then the league position will sort itself out. We do have a tough run coming up but I fancy us to keep finding points from somewhere.

yes nice for the staff and players to get recognition and quite rightly so- as i said in a previous post i cant stop smiling about medel playing for the bluebirds. if he carries on the way he is we will do well to hold on to him<wah>
 
I honestly think he and MM probabaly have a gentlemans agreement (that may also be in the contract) that if a top 6/7 club come in during the summer he'll be allowed to leave for a reasonable not ridiculous profit.
The Fulham game showed how amazing he'll be if we can play more on the front foot.

That opinion is based on the fact he's far too good for any side that isn't a regular in Europe. Messi urged Barca to sign him from Seville, it's not as if no one knew who he was!

I obviously hope he stays and hope we do well enough this year to prove if it's not one of the PL's really big clubs then he'd might as well stay with us.
 
Medel and Theo look real quality, but Caulker was an ace signing as well - I honestly doubt Huds has future with us other than an injury/suspension plug. Brayford and Corny are the current holders of the question marks, but to be fair, Corny's injury issues have clouded the issue over him.

Anyway, back to the thread title - well, will they this weekend? Newcastle home for us and the Saints away for the Swans.

Our position in the table is all that really matters, but I wonder if the "relegation fodder" club can manage to stay with the established Prem club that's going to improve on their last season position.

Whaddya think?
 
Hmmm......not this weekend after all then.

Both of us got beat and slip further down the table as a result. Good job for both of us that Stoke, Norwich, Palace and Sunderland all lost as well - what a result for West Ham though!

International break now, so it's slightly ahead for us for the next fortnight, but that should be it.

Looking at the next pair of fixtures, we'll have a severe examination at Chelsea and the Swans have bottom club Sunderland at home.

No contest then - the Swans back above us on the 19th October no problem.
