Yeh, I guess. But what about taking the rewards for doing something right for a change! If "To dare is to do" there obviously aren't many Spurs fans in Government! HBIC - are you going for Business or pleasure? How would you rate the rest of it? I've always fancied going.
Pleasure. Mainly because doing business in Japan is murder on my lower back with all the bowing involved. Having been a couple of times already, I can say... Tokyo - Seriously, just go. It's a wonderful city, and it rewards you exploring as there are so many great restaurants and bars tucked away on side streets. Places to go: Ghibli Museum, Roppongi Hills (huge shoppig mall, with a sake bar and several great restaurants, and near the Tokyo Tower), Asakusa (great restaurants hidden away, a beautiful temple where they have regular festivals, the Sky Tree Tower, and the sumo stadium), Shinjuku (clubs, bars, and you can go yakuza spotting!), Imperial Palace gardens (where you can see the Emperors' plums) Kyoto - Slight problem with Kyoto, it feels like a museum due to it not being bombed flat in the 1940s, but if you want to be a cultural tourist it's good for a weekend. Places to go: Ryoan-ji, Hikone-jo (the only surviving samurai castle) Osaka - Only spent a day or two there, so didn't see much of the city. Great acquarium, though. Yokohama - Errm...okay, skip there.
Wow, wasn't expecting a full list of attractions! haha Thanks, I think I will make an effort to do it.
Japanese Sex Clubs. Although my step-brother rarely spoke about Japan, we all knew the reason he stayed there for so long. He was eventually deported for internal posession of cannabis - he'd smoked a spliff a week before being caught as a British piss-head.
Basic thing to remember about Japan... Expensive Hotel rooms Imported beer Coffee Beef Wine Cheap Public transport Japanese beers (I got an 800ml glass of Asahi for £6!) Japanese food Cab fares
Oh well.As the scientists suggest the earth will be gone in a billion years,do you think we might win one more championship.......and I might get to visit Australia.......?
Well done to Sir Ben Ainslee tonight in the Americas Cup last race decider, he's on for mission impossible. Its not that I particularly like the thought of USA winning anything, its the fact they needed a Brit to show them how its done!
Only Americans could gloss over the fact that even though the score read 8-1, in the races it was actually 8-3 but they were docked 2 points for cheating. All the superlatives come out for their "incredible" achievement but if Dwayne Chambers won a medal at the Olympics last year we wouldn't be calling it a "miracle", we'd all just think he got away with it this time.
Not sure if this is posted elsewhere, but congrats also to Cliff Jones. Wish I'd been around to see the early sixties team, must have been exciting times for Spurs fans. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24273355 Spurs and Wales legend Cliff Jones inducted into Hall of Fame Welsh wing legend Cliff Jones has been inducted into the National Football Hall of Fame. Jones, 78, played 59 times for his country and was in the Tottenham side that won the Football League and FA Cup double in the 1960-61 season. He was also in the only Wales team to play in the World Cup finals in 1958. Jones is the sixth Welshman to be inducted into the hall of fame, following John Charles, Billy Meredith, Ian Rush, Mark Hughes and Ryan Giggs. Although he enjoyed great success with Spurs, Swansea-born Jones started his career with his home town club and said some of his fondest memories come from that period of his career. âThey were great days [playing for Swansea Town]. I'm a Swansea Jack and I love old Swansea â Cliff Jones "It was a privilege to play for Tottenham in the '60s because we were a good team," said Jones. "But for me the most satisfying time was at Swansea Town at the dear old Vetch Field when we were all local lads together and Ivor Allchurch was the golden boy of Welsh football and Mel Charles was a character. "They were great days. I'm a Swansea Jack and I love old Swansea." Jones was transferred from Swansea to Tottenham in 1958 and made his debut in a 4-4 draw with Arsenal. As well as becoming the first team to win the double in 1961, Spurs won the FA Cup in 1962 and 1967 and became the first English club to win European honours when they claimed the Cup Winners' Cup in 1963. Jones scored 159 goals in 378 appearance for Spurs and is fourth in the club's all-time scoring list. He joined Fulham after leaving Spurs in 1968 and briefly for King's Lynn. Today he is an ambassador for Tottenham Hotspur and said he was honoured join the list of players in the National Hall of Fame. "I'm very pleased and I'm going to enjoy the evening," he added. "I've been talking to (former Leeds United and Scotland winger) Eddie Gray and reminiscing about playing in the 1960s. It was a great time for British football." Jones was one of a number of former players honoured at a dinner in Manchester on Wednesday. Raich Carter, Eddie Gray, Matt Le Tissier, Mike Summerbee and Ray Wilkins were the other players inducted on Wednesday. Fellow inductee Summerbee, the former Manchester City wing, said Cliff Jones epitomised Tottenham Hotspur. "For me Cliff Jones is Spurs," he said. "He's always there at White Hart Land and they'll probably put him on top of that cockerel one day."
I said Sir Ben Ainslee, he was/is not a drug cheat or any cheat, what on earth are you doing comparing Dwayne Chambers to him?? . The post wasn't about congratulating Americans. For what its worth, the cheating related to Oracle team members and different boats during 'last' years comp. nothing to do at all with this years catarmarans Ainslee is involved with. All new team members this year are obviously exonerated. The offence itself was adding 5lb of weight to a boat that weighed 3000lb, a misdemeanour not much different to the recent infringement in F1, when Lotus and Force India were 1.5kg under weight, no big hoo-ha there though, or slights on Raikonnen or Di Resta either. Mechanical and aero mods happen all through the season, so cars starting at the back of the grid is not uncommon...not derided as cheats though! The punishment in the sailing does not equal the crime, and has been blown up for some 'other' reason. Its taken me a while to dig into this, the whole story is poorly reported, people unaware could read it as the boat Ainslee has just won on had been altered, which is not the case at all. I'm not condoning cheating, it just goes on and should be treated on its merits.
I wasn't attacking your post or calling Ainslee a cheat. Fair enough, I didn't know the ins and outs of it but from what I understood, what they did was very intentional and done in the warm up. You might think it's minor but I think it should raise questions when they've been done for cheating in a practice run and all of a sudden in the last few races their boat becomes much faster than the New Zealand one. I just think once you cheat, you've tainted any remarkable feats you may achieve because people will just wonder whether they just got away with it this time.
Thanks for posting this SD. Cliff Jones an all-time great, bit embarrassing for him to join along with Wilkins who was nowhere near his level. Cliff's in my all-time Spurs XI, and I can't imagine ever leaving him out of it.
I read your post the other/wrong way I get what you're saying, and the warm up you refer to is last years warm up, and yes, the cynics can stain this years achievement, but coincidence in boat speed is related to Ainslees input, he was promoted to tactically 'lead' the team and change boat settings during the series. Before the start he wasn't even going to be on the boat, being only in the standby crew. All that aside, the scale of the comeback is astonishing, its like Federer being 5-0 and 40/30 up final set...and still losing 7-5!
Fair enough. Although it's not quite the same as being 5-0 up as they'd already proven 3 times that they could win a race. 8 in a row though is of course special. I'm a grumpy cynic at heart and can't change that
Ferrari's possession of other manufacturers classified info was far worse imo, but forgotten already, if Alonso was likely to win this years championship I'm not so sure that would have been dragged up, but who knows. For the sailing, its a shame two faceless boatbuilders in the workshop have brought the thing into disrepute. Wronguns everywhere!
although i'm not into sailing i have a lot of respect for Sir Ben,a true olympic great, his first Games was my Niece Kate's first, both won medals!
