Going about the protest the wrong way

As someone who has worked in business overseas for over 15 years with Arabs and Asians i think we have to be very clever how we go about trying to get the name changed stopped. As you have seen with Cardiff if you go up against these type of people you will just get there back up even further and you will have no chance of changing there minds, Vincent Tans answer was if you say no im off and your club will go bust. I believe we are caught up here in the middle of an disagreement between the Allams and the Council and this is the real reason he wants to drop the word city so the council cannot make money on the back of city's success. But calling him names and writing abuse will just get his back up and make him even more determine to change the name because that's how Arabs are in business. For me the only way to deal with this and this type of culture is for a small group of people to meet with the club and Mr Allam and appeal to the side of him he obviously has like when he donates to charity etc. Mini protests and name calling will just get his back up and when you get an Arabs back up you wont get it back..Ask Barmby, the council and workers in Hull who he has made redundant. He says he is a business man making these decisions so we have to sit down with him as business people and change his mind. as being football fans he does not understand....

Just FYI i live in Kuala Lumpur and i have never seen 1 cardiff city shirt here even after they changed to go Red. Asians only believe in winning teams.

I think making a rash decision to with 1 days notice to turn up late to a game which will with the lateness of the decision attract not many people so be brushed aside by the club as the minority is wrong. we need to sit down and come up with a plan of action that Mr Allam will listen to before we go to far and he wont turn back.

It's full name is the Arab Republic Of Egypt, it's mainly in North Africa, but also borders Israel in Asia.

I can understand the points made in the OP and I wouldn't disagree with them, but I don't believe Assem will be happy being seen as the villain, or becoming unpopular, so protests could still work.

They're happening regardless...


The Ulltras have an idea. We heartily endorse it, and look forward to seeing as many people as possible at West Park gates at 2.30pm:

We call on all City fans past and present to up the level of protest on Saturday.

Project ‘delayed kick-off’

We suggest that all city fans including Cardiff who have their own madness to deal with, to delay their entry into the KC until five minutes after kick off. The modern owners of our clubs care only about the riches of the international TV audience they don’t care about you the match attending fans who make up and have in the past saved this very club. Let us give the TV audience a spectacle to discuss.

Those who want to protest visibly please meet at the West Park Gates at 2:30 where a march will slowly make its way at 2:45 to the outer concourse. The AIM is to make noise outside whilst having a half empty stadium on kick off. As the whistle for the game goes we can then noisily make our way into the stadium holding the NO placards that have circulated and make out feelings clear.

Whether you joined the first protest or not ALL will be welcome.”


You should have left MK Dons off your list, their ground is far from full(1/3 full on average).

I've said similar to the OP in a post on CI. His actions are 'honour' driven as he fees he's been slighted. The problem would be selecting the right people and getting Mr Allam to agree to the meeting.

I think the current more visible protests have their place in this as well though, especially in the short term.


If you don't want to (or can't) join the march, just turn up late to the ground. If it has no effect on Papa, it will send a message to those near him that don't necessarily agree with him anyway and encourage them to get some balls and speak up.

You're completely missing the point, the Ulltras is a play on words, as they're Ull City fans. They're not a bunch of kids who want to sound hard, they're a good bunch of lads who are working with the club to improve the support at the KC.

The more fans that realise what is happening, the better. The protest action is not merely aimed at showing AA the fans' feelings about his name-change plans. It's also aimed at showing the wider world - via TV/radio/media - and 'educating' more Hull City fans.

Then there's the Cardiff element, and their beef with Tan and their own changes.......

There should be no exclusions of reasonable methods of protesting; a small, but (it would need to be) influential group gaining direct discussion would have some effect, but probably not enough. The proposed Ultra protest is a reasonable idea but runs the risk of being disruptive and drawing in the intervention of stewards (police) which would be hugely counterproductive. As cameras are at all grounds, perhaps we can make better use of them?

How about the crowd turning their backs at kick-off, or when a goal is scored; something that will be seen when the camera pans the stands. If everyone boycotted the match-day programs, food, drink and betting he would be made to focus where it matters to him - his commercial relationships. The Official Supporters Club and any other formally acknowledged supporter liaison should suspend all scheduled meetings of a routine nature until some acceptable form of consultation is put in place. The national supporters body (as involved in the bubble fiasco) should be an important part of this, as should invited elements of the media. We should be transparent of action and intent, peaceful in approach and collaborative with broader elements who show an interest in the key concerns we have - those key concerns should be carefully and clearly declared, so progress can be measured and seen to be achieved.

Neither and both. The global ultras movement is not about violence, although some groups that are violent have been labelled ultras. Palace label themselves as ultras, hardly intimidating are they?

Don't get hung up on media labels, they're misleading and often not at all accurate.

Bit of word play Dutch. As you can tell I'm not arsed about the name change. But I d have more respect for those marching if they really got off their arses and did something instead of staying in the pub and sauntering down to an important game late.

Get there at one and do a peaceful continuous march round the stadium. More people may join that.

Why not get people to wear black to the game, obviously not tomorrows but maybe 1 a month away so it can be publicised. Or have something like a black poppy produced saying RIP Hull City AFC or something along those lines. If it's seen then to me it makes a bigger impact, you have that for the full game & those that don't want to stand & physically protest can do something to show support!
