Just thinking about our goalkeeper situation. We have Kelvin who is 34 (i think) and Bart who is 23. Do you think that he will play more games this year of will kevlin stay keeper all year.

Kevlin..don't they make bullet-proof vests out of that <laugh> Seriously, don't think NA will be worried overmuch about the goalkeeping position, because he'd rather spend money elsewhere, but it will be an issue if we look like getting promotion. Need another good goalkeeper for the Premiership.

    No that's Kevlar

Also do you think that Bart will get more of a chance this year?

I knew that, just joking. Unless KD is injured or starts having a real 'mare, he's the man between the sticks. Unless Bart gets his chance this year, I can see him being overlooked and a new keeper brought in next year. That's the problem with being a keeper, manager's rarely take risks. Perhaps he'll get his chance in cup matches.

Pre-season will be interesting as it could give Bart a shout at staking a claim.

I actually really rate Bart. Feel a bit sorry for him really. That said, the goalkeeper at Scunthorpe (Joe Murphy?) was released recently, and seems to be quite highly rated. Wouldn't mind seeing Adkins make a move for him.

As much as KD has done a fantastic job, I would Bart to get a chance. The odd game he played last season he made me feel confident about his ability.

I think a majority of the time Bart's spent in nets for us, he's been very reliable. Definite future #1 for us, has to be.

So, a keeper with the best clean sheet record in the division, should be replaced by a bloke who barely plays reserve games?

I am really glad that fans don't select teams. We'd be in massive deep **** if that ever happened.

That Lallana mush, he's done alright, but Lee Holmes has shown loyalty and is a nice bloke, so I say, drop Lallana and replace him with Holmes.

No, you wouldn't would you. So why do some say "give him a chance" for the goalkeeper position when the current player doesn't deserve to be dropped?

No you are mistaken by my comment. Its not just about rewarding Bart.... its about spotting a time in a players career when they may step up to the mark and the other may have to finally bow out. I think Kelvin is a top class keeper and in League 1 he had a fantastic season. However.... i do remember many many many saints fans on Kelvs back a few seasons ago. He is nearly 35 i think, and although a keepers career is longer...... I just feel its a possiblitly he will be replaced sooner rather than later

Although he was in team of the season, i just somehow feel he may only have 1 or 2 seasons left in him before we will be looking for a replacement.... and personally i hope thats Bart as he clearly has ability.

Is this not a Forum where people can view there opinions????

Like i said.... Kelvin for another season/Jan at LEAST!

    COYRs!

If Kelvin wasn't dropped last season despite having a very iffy patch, I doubt he'll be replaced over the summer. However, another less than vintage season and he needs to be quietly and respectfully moved aside.

Just don't see this as any different to any other position in the team. If Davis goes through a spell of poor form (more than just 1 or 2 games in a row), then yes, replace him with whoever. No point thinking ahead 1 or 2 seasons, its right here and now that counts. If Bart doesn't want to stick around, then I understand that, but that's the way it goes for keepers. You only have to look at how many fringe keepers at top Prem clubs spend a large chunk of their career out on loan because they can't displace a clear No1.

Adkins was a keeper as well, so I'm sure he's more than aware of his keepers strengths and weaknesses. It's also not just about shot saving either. Experience and working with the defence, along with influence in the dressing room and training ground are all factored in.

    I totally agree.

I was just responding to the title of the thread

Us as fans can be very judgemental and look past the bigger factors behind closed doors.... like dressing room influence and leading characteristics..... and quickly point oput a mis hap or a bad game

I still however feel..... even under current form.... Kelv may not have more than 2 seasons left with us unfortunately

I agree that Kelvin has been good for us and also feel that his time is running out. He has been rewarded for staying by being our number one even when he has on a couple of occasions had a poor spell. I hope like others have said that Bart gets a chance to play more this season. He needs games and with the way that we are now set-up he won't have many opportunities, even for our second team.

I think Bialkowski will be a great keeper when he has the chance but Davis is far from finished yet. He will win keeper of the season for a third year running ;) I imagine he has a massive influence in the changing room and you can't deny that we wouldn't be in the Championship next season were it not for some of the last minute saves he pulled off to prevent wins becoming draws and draws becoming losses. He has one full season left at least in my opinion.

Kelvin Davis has earned this moment in the Championship, big time! He was brilliant in this league before, the problem was we had a sh!t defence!!

Anyone that slates him is a complete nutter! He has saved us endlessly over the years!
