Just read his recent comments. Jesus Christ, they are worrying! I sincerely hope that its just a smokescreen to focus the player's minds on the NLD and we actually have some players lined up. He can't possibly think we have an adequate squad, especially with all of our injuries. If his solution to Podolski's injury is to reinstate Bendtner, then he is no longer fit to manage Arsenal and should not be offered a new contract. (unless we win the league or the Champion's League)
Na he knows who to sign he just has REAL issues spending big money on players. Wenger see's going down the big name/big money root as something that opposes his footballing ideology. This is why we get all this procrastination and first time bids that we never improve upon.
There's no evidence he has anyone lined up or who to sign, judging by his comments. It's just hope on you're part. Of course, it might be smoke screens and he really well get in some top players. But do you really believe that?? At least we're a desirable prospect to a new manage with plenty of cash to spend.
Yes agreed, but not over a prolonged period of time like true legends (Bergkamp, Cantona, Henry, Schmeichel, Drogna, Zola etc - admittedly all Europeans) To be fair he was with us 6 years but combination of fitness and formation prevented him from playing that much. You could say that the start of our current problems came from Gilberto and Flamini both being allowed to disappear at the same time....
I think Arsenal have been confronted with an exasperating paradox for many years now. On the one hand, Wenger has refused to face the realities of the current transfer market and pay enough to recruit enough top players. This has left us incapable of challenging for major trophies and is responsible for our barren period. This is a good argument for letting him go. On the other hand, if we did strengthen sufficiently ( let's say for the sake of argument we brought in Benzema, Ozil and Di Maria), then THERE IS NO-ONE I WOULD WANT MORE TO MANAGE THIS TEAM THAN ARSENE WENGER! I think this paradox illustrates the problem with the structure currently in place at Arsenal. In my view the extent to which Wenger is involved in transfers should be writing up a list of players he wants in every position he wishes to strengthen. That's it. No "deciding the value of players" and no "finding internal solutions." Arsenal have become a victim of Wenger's previous success and he has far too much involvement in almost every aspect of the club. His responsibilities need to be reduced to managing the team and selecting possible reinforcements. Everything else should be taken out of his hands. If he is not willing to accept this arrangement, then its time for the club to move on and drag itself into the present. I will stop short of calling for his head until the 3rd of September. If he strengthens properly then fair enough, if not, it's time for him to go.
Most sensible Arsenal fans have been saying this for years now, it just doesn't work having a manager, negotiator and accountant all rolled into one
If he gets the sack by January - at least your new manager will have money to build his own team Wenger is clearly a dinosaur in the transfer market, times have changed, but he hasn't. Simple as that really.
The one thing I can guarantee you won't happen is Wenger getting sacked. I've said all along I think he will either retire or move on at the end of this season when his contract runs out. If he decides to stay and there's a bit of restructuring at the club then great
Hmm its tricky. If the crowd turns against you - The baord will be forced to make changes. Can you imagine if we loose to Spurs and we still hav'nt signed anyone of note? The atmosphere will be pretty rough.
It's funny, some of you lot read quotes and go berserk about how it means Wenger isn't going to sign anyone. And i read the exact same quotes and have confidence that actually he is working on deals. It's amusing that the same quotes can be taken in such hugely different ways and just goes to show how we disect every little comment when in reality they are probably just off the cuff comments which don't show anything!
I'd like to see Wenger concentrate on the football and tell somebody else to go and get the players he wants, like he used to with David Dein. That was a partnership made in heaven and worked a treat. I think Gazidis should stick to the commercial aspects of the club, **** knows what Dick Law does, but he doesn't seem to be doing it very well. My structure would be: Wenger: Team manager Dein: Director of Football / chief negotiator Gazidis: CEO and head of commercial operations and never the twain shall meet.
Being linked to Kalou: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...icklas-Bendtner-interests-Crystal-Palace.html Because you know, he's the super special quality type of player. The funny thing is, if we sign him, you'd have some deluded fans saying what a good signing he is, while at the same time trying to put Spurs' signings as not good enough for the Arsenal squad, because Kalou's obviously better than Spurs' signings right?
Selling Gervinho and getting Kalou would be a just terrible move. But, after what Wenger and co have got up to in this transfer window, I would not rule this possible move out.
Kalou would be a terrible signing and i can't imagine anyone being overly excited at the prospect of signing him. We need a couple of special players and a good squad player at least.
We are hoping for Di Maria or Draxler.. It would be ****ing typical if we signed Kalou. I would rather we kept Gervinho than sign him.
Agree Gervinho is better and im hoping WF is one of the positions we get someone really good e.g. Di Maria
