Do you not think Cabaye and Flamini would be good signings to help bulk out the squad? They are both good players who would help add depth to our team. I don't think Wenger thinks these two are the missing puzzle pieces to win us the title, but they are good additions which are needed as well as the big name/top quality signing(s).

Does anyone think we could sign Michu? I think he would add a bit of quality and depth to our strikeforce. Cabaye, Flamini, Michu, a CB and a GK would be acceptable in my view.

I would go either/or because they are both fairly simular. Both are decent midfielders and would be useful for the squad but neither are really at a higher level to any of the CM we currently have.

I hope the manager is aiming a little 'higher'.

I would welcome Flamini into the squad as he would bring some stability, and Cabaye would be good injury cover for Arteta and Wilshere/Ramsey. These players can only bring us up to a potential Champions league spot at 4th, without them would be very risky. We are a few injuries away from a major stuggle, so i'm sure Wenger will bring one or both of these guys in (or simular quality), to stabilise us. We won't get anyone to improve our 1st team, which we need in order to challenge for the league. But that is not our aim it seems.

    @lazarus

I don't think whether we sign Flamini/Cabaye will have any bearing on whether we go for a big signing.

I agree that they are the sort of players who will stabalise the squad (give it some decent depth as they can both step in and do a job) and make sure we keep our top 4 spot, not the type of players who will win us a title. But just signing the big name signing or two won't win us a title either. We need BOTH types of signings. The good squad players and the game changers.

It was a step in the right direction to clear out the deadwood. It is a step in the right direction to bring in a couple of experienced good quality squad players like Flamini and Cabaye. Both of these things show movements towards the right end result i.e. a better squad. This will help us continue to grind out results against normal opposition.

But on top of that we need to bring in the couple of superstars to take our FIRST 11 to the next stage. This will help us get results against the top 5-6 teams.

Combined, both types of signings will leave us in a much better position to challenge. We have a great core to the squad we just need to make clever acquisitions. I'm pleased we are not rushing and signing any old player and ending up with new deadwood but taking our time to get the right players. We just better have the right players in come the end of the transfer window...

According to the manager, we only need numbers. He says we have enough quality, so I wouldn't be so sure.

He is constantly making sure he bigs up the players we have and i wouldn't expect anything else. That doesnt mean he doesnt want to add any players....

Of course he wants to add players. His motivation is to add numbers though, so if he signs Flamini and Cabaye, I wouldn't expect big names to follow. You could be right that he wanted to maintain the confidence of the current squad before now. Here's to hoping!

Saying it is about numbers means the current lot of players dont think they are too **** and about to be replaced. I personally think he is very clever with the way he talks about transfers so as not to effect the guys at Arsenal. I know it pisses off the fans who read into every little comment as if there is hidden meaning in everything but i think he is just keeping up morale whilst going about our transfer business as queitly as possible.

Anyway even if you go by it only being about numbers - adding two players isnt going to replace all the deadwood we shifted out. I still think we will be working on getting other deals done if we sign Flamini and Cabaye.

People still think we are gonna spend? Wenger should be sacked now while there is still time for a sane manager to make some signings. Said this all facking Summer. Have people woke up yet?

Yes because sacking Wenger now and trying to replace him immedietly is what is going to make sure this transfer window is a success... Because the selection process for a new manager is that quick and of course the new manager would already know the squad perfectly and what players to bring in to compliment what we have...

I'm sure sometimes people just post without thinking through what they are writing...

Has everyone given up hope of a title challenge and decided this will be another struggle for Top 4 year?

I never had any hope of a title challenge and unless we bring in a few squad player I don't really see us challenging for 4th either

It is pointless to sack Wenger now. He has a very few days left to save his ass. I expect nothing less than a title challenge or he should leave. He's had money, he's had the chance to spend it. He's run flat out of excuses now.

It's not pointless to sack him. The season is a write off, we won't win anything and I doubt we will finish 4th. Get the new man in so he has a year to get to know his squad and enforce his ethos.

Roma have confirmed the sale of Erik Lamela to Spurs for £30 million. They have a very strong squad now, even without Bale. I wonder who exactly are the 'special' signings Wenger has in mind. 5 days to go and still no money spent. Wenger better pull something pretty ****ing special out of his hat or bye bye CL I fear . . .

Hopefully Lamela to Spurs means Bale to Madrid goesahead, freeing up one of Di Maria, Ozil or Benzema (or even two of them).
