The media didn't take to Mourinho straight away, he was much maligned at first and there's still a large contingent of anti-Mourinho journalists in the press. Mourinho indirectly went after the press by saying things like "When Chelsea lose, it's a national holiday for everybody in the country", AVB directly went after them with his press conference following the win against Valencia.

You are right in the sense that AVB is far more introvert and not a showman like Mourinho. Everybody knew the Mourinho act wouldn't last, he loves the headlines, hasn't changed at all. AVB is less media savvy and doesn't like the media attention so when attacked, he often panicked and came out with ridiculous retorts.

Mourinho's the king of ridiculous retorts. He accused UEFA of being part of a conspiracy with refs to help Barca, then he had the cheek to moan about Lambert pointing out some poor decisions! <laugh>

Beating us to a player at the 11th hour is annoying but fair enough. Acting like a classless twat by joking around at the other club's expense afterwards isn't <ok>

But it was fine for AVB to have a dig at senior players less than 24 hours before we were scheduled to play his side?

If this is the yardstick to judge managers, then they're all "classless", be it Moyes for ,akinf a derisory bid for two of his ex players or Rodgers for shipping Reina out on loan to Naples without his consent.

You won't find many Copenhagen, Inter, Real, Arsenal or Chelsea fans that disagree with that, or anyone else that has suffered at the hands of blatant official favouritism in favour of Barca.

Really? Tell it to the linesmen that keep giving you goals against us when they haven't crossed the line. Are the FA in a conspiracy to help you too or is that a bit ridiculous?
How about the Torres dive that resulted in Lampard's goal against Hull or the flailing elbow of Ivanovic against Villa? Are you being helped or is Mourinho just a hypocrite?

Mind games in the way you're describing with AVB are another matter entirely. I'm not trying to absolve him from that, even if you could make a pretty solid argument that those players made problems for him at Chelsea and weren't shy about saying so, so they had it coming to them. Moyes' behaviour was also ridiculous, not only do I not like it when managers go straight back to their old clubs for players but surely in that case he knew the bids wouldn't be accepted at that value, if at all, and was just trying to turn their heads and placate the fans and media clamouring for a Utd signing, thoughtless of the lack of respect he was showing to his old employers.

The fact is, as you alluded to, that there is little class left in football. Even 'model pros' like Giggs have their bad points and managers are no different, managers and players play mind games no matter how subtle they try and pretend to be. Almost every comment to the media is measured for effect before it is made. Thats not how it should be but it is how it is. Having a very public and obvious laugh and a joke about doing one over another club isn't really on though, and that is the issue with what Mourinho has done here.

The point DL is that first time round he had a spine of players who were winners - all of whom would be mentioned when discussing the best PL of the last 10 years and the best teams. Now the players who remain are older and less influential. There is no doubt Chelsea have a lot of talented players, but are they winners? And how will Mourinho handle it if they perform like last season when results like 8-0 v Villa and impressive wins at Stoke, Everton etc were interspersed with a 3-1 defeat at West Ham, a home defeat to QPR, sloppy defending for draws v Reading and Southampton. Will he still be cocky and sniggering? It might not be so smooth a ride this time.

Oh get over yourselves. A completely non offensive press conference is suddenly being considered as an all out verbal attack on Spurs. You got played by Mourinho. Get over yourselves and move on.

Had anyone else notice that DL had been absent for a while then suddenly his club does something that he perceives as getting one over on us and suddenly he's on EVERY thread being as classless as his manager and club. I'm sure he thinks he's so clever for fooling us, why is he still allowed here? He does a good act at sensible chat sometimes but deep down he's a massive WUM

Similar to the other fans, just here to wum when they've got something to crow about but nothing to discuss at any other time. It's tiresome

I don't think anyone is claiming this as an "all out verbal attack", we're not even particularly pissed about you beating us to Willian's signature so late on in the signing process. This issue is that Mourinho has once again demonstrated the fact that he is a bit of a ****er, this time by publicly making a joke at our expense. The OP on the thread isn't even a Spurs fan for what thats worth.

Can't help thinking I'd be laughing if he did it to someone else. Quite frankly thats why I like JM and the controversy he brings. I'm just taking it on the chin, what goes around comes around.

Agree with that to be fair. At the end of the day, he's there to please their fans, not ours. They're all still ****s mind.

I had a smile too notso his last line about the medical at Chelsea was very funny. Why should I play double standards he has the player we don't, there are others.

OK who want's to be playmaker for Spurs? THIS is a chance of a lifetime for someone. Form a queue!

Roo! Roo!

And as Boss will point out we have Carrol waiting in the wings.

I thought his press conference was great, fantastic mourinho, being a ffc fanatic I am hardly going to favour cfc, but when he said you should keep quiet until you have the player signed and passed the medical, a journo then asked how s the willian deal going? jose said he s got to pass his medical, I thought that was very funny, he is a clever man, and entertaining

He made them winners lol. They weren't winners when he arrived.

Yes, I did notice that.
