I've just posted this on the pub thread too...

"We all had a good laugh in that thread (myself included) but the thread had pretty much run its life by the time it was closed anyway, just create a new one. Nobody wants you to leave RHC (myself included since you're one of the main poster that I have a laugh with) but threats of living unless its opened aren't going to solve anything <ok>"


I didn't agree with it being closed but nor am I prepared to undermine a fellow mod. Just create something else and we'll no doubt run with it. This board is never going to get serious with me as a mod. If people want it to be serious then (like I've said to Enricky and Mr Gonzo already), I'll quit because that is not why I like this site!

I tend to agree with the angry bastard, we need thread where we can post and we're not beaten to death with #offtopic

that was kind of the point, the pub thread is for that (that's not me agreeing with that view, I loved the snail thread)

I'm not sure that's going to help but if your going to take the piss, make sure you stick a <badger> on the end <laugh>
 
Theoretically this is a football board, but over time it has extended to include a wider range of topics- which is no bad thing in my book.
In real life people obviously have interests outside of football and the discussions have reflected that.
If I watch a game in a pub, then during the game I focus on that, but afterwards the discussions obviously wander off to other things. To me, this board is just simulating reality.
Some daft threads have been entertaining, some (mainly by Sisu) have brought up serious and often controversial topics.
One of the things I like about here is our ability to move quickly from being serious to funny and back again- again just like the outside world.
Perhaps if OT threads were all marked in the header (Sisu and some others do it anyway), then people who aren't interested can stay away.
I myself have little interest in long-running U.S. tv shows but I don't object to there being a dedicated thread for it. Same with the Test Match thread.
I don't think it's practical for all OT stuff to be confined to the pub, there are too many subjects to fit comfortably together.
In the end, it's down to the general consensus of how we want the board to be.
Perhaps we need a poll? :)

I share your pain RHC, they took away my butterfly thread <wah>

Like I said, yesterday was buzzing and there were posts left right and centre and all the sillyness was mainly 2 threads, Snails and Name Change

Risk of repeating myself we do need the silly threads and I cant ever see them being more than half of the board (more like a 1/4 or less). There will always be football threads for those wanting to talk footie, its good to mix it up

All I know is Zingy posted a "sent bluff a pm thread" and next thing there were padlocked threads everywhere <whistle>

(fair play Gerrez for wanting to keep them too, cool :police:)

True, it can be a nightmare on here sometimes because, like this thread/issue is highlighting, there are many different opinions amongst us that want to see different things, it is impossible to keep everyone happy. That was the fuel behind this post:

I believe the regulars are the most important ones to keep happy. RHC, Mr Gonzo and myself are certainly in this category but then, so are others such as Enricky, MITO, Saint, etc who aren't so keen on the regular off topic issues. This is what makes this situation that much harder to manage because I can't apply the above logic, its a in-fight for group a!
