If Osvaldo signs I would play:

Boruc
Clyne Maya Lovren Shaw
Schneiderlin Wanyama
Gaston Rodriguez
Lambert Osvaldo

Get our best players onto the pitch and take teams apart. I am concerned that we could squander gaston's talent and if Osvaldo comes in I can't see him playing centrally with Lambert always dropping deep. On the other hand gaston will have a good outlet in osvaldo so the move will surely be positive long term.

It's up to him to play himself into form but I don't think him playing out wide, tracking fullbacks and pressing for much of the game is the best thing for Gaston although it's what the system requires. If Osvaldo comes in I think Gaston is going to have to play better than either Osvaldo or Lambert to ensure he plays centrally with some luxury. As he is at his best when he recieves the ball centrally and has options running in behind. An in form gaston, as the liverpool game showed is still handy out wide but it isn't where he can have the most influence.

@dimarzio: Today @danistone25 is close to @SouthamptonFC: parts are talking, positive sensations, deal could be closed in the next hours #osvaldosaints

Pablo Daniel Osvaldo is ready to say goodbye to Italy. The Italo-Argentine striker, who has not played yesterday against Ternana officially for a muscle strain, is a step away from Southampton. We told you about the opening of the player to the destination English, and even today it is working to find a final agreement. Now the parties are close, the signals are positive and already today the deal can be concluded. Yesterday the fans of Southampton sang several choruses in favor of Osvaldo, a clear sign of how the square can be pleased with her purchase. It goes on, the contacts are continuing. Osvaldo moves away from Rome.

Agree with Joe that initially its likely to be Jay Rod who will sit out.
but it's all about the squad. You'd like to think the arrival of Osvaldo would mean Lambert won't have to play every minute of every game for us to be any sort of attacking threat
