Not sure I follow your logic there.
BR was brought in to try and resurrect a club at a 50 year low- not an easy job, granted, but surely trying to follow someone who's presided over a 20 year period of domination is always going to be harder to live up to?
I'm not saying he can't do it, because I haven't got a crystal ball -but it's a tough task.

It'll be a true measure of how many of their 'fans' are in it for the long haul and not just glory hunters, our superb supporters have stuck with us through the bad times since our last title win and been rewarded with a CL win.

I'll turn that logic around. Last season they weren't very good at all. They won the Premiership at a canter - not because of their skill but because all of the other sides performed even more poorly. In support of that contention I would point to the United performance (or lack of it) in Europe.

So to my mind they were already bad and not going to get any better.

  7. The logic is that Rodgers wasn't qualified for a club like Liverpool. He certainly didn't have the win percentage that previous Liverpool managers have been required to have. Fair enough, he took over at our lowest point in fifty years but still, he wasn't up to scratch in terms of achievements.

Moyes has never won anything either but he had done a fantastic job at Everton considering the situation there and he had many years Premier League experience behind him.

IMO, one was clearly a riskier appointment than the other.

Yeah, difficult to accuse our supporters of being glory-hunters.
Also, I was amazed at the level of support shown on the far-east tour for a team that hasn't been at the top for over 20 years now.

G, what have you been drinking tonight?

What's all this win percentage nonesense. Bob Paisley and Joe ***an had no win percentage when appointed. Kenny didn't on his first appointment. That's just a wiered form of logic!

I feel sorry for Moyes because there have been significant changes at United that will effect the club from top to bottom. Everybody has concentrated upon Ferguson but the loss of David Gill may have even more effect upon the running of the club. I'm not going to go into the cultural problems that organisations undergo when iconic people leave but they are deep and highly problematic. It is highly likely that Moyes will find the tide of events appears to turn against him no matter how hard he tries.

I have to disagree. Whilst our aspirations were as high as ever, our realistic expectations are necessarily lower because we understand the magnitude of the task.
Moyes will be expected to maintain the level of success that the club has become used to, and as we were talking about being qualified for the task, I don't think maintaining Everton at a stable 5th-9th place is much of a yardstick.
As I said, he may yet do it, but saying that he was better qualified to take on the job in hand than BR was to his is wrong, imo.
The only managers who could claim to be "qualified" would be those who've had consistent success at the highest level.
And, as we've seen with the Chavs' managerial merry-go-round, it's still no guarantee.

  15. The win percentage is a minor guage towards a managers ability, I realise its not always the fairest tool but I was only using it as an example. My point till stands, Moyes has done more prior to joining Man Utd than rodgers had prior to joining Liverpool but most of us now swear by him.

As I said earlier though, I don't want to spend the night defending the mancs <laugh>

Do you think Everton have had a better team than Liverpool for the last couple of years, or maybe Moyes has got that little bit extra out of average players (a bit like Fergie)?

Let's just have to leave it at that. Can't be arsed getting into a repetitive argument like sometimes happens with wums where you end up repeating the same points ad nauseum.
As ever, it's all a matter of opinion and time will tell.
    What's happening with Suarez, btw?

    #6239
  20. Exactly, partly why I just left it with both yourself and Dave <laugh>
