This was three years ago at Newcastle Central station. Selective memories some of you lads.
Police were prepared for possible trouble on Saturday as Sunderland fans travelled from the North East to play Hearts in Edinburgh.
An operation was launched to make sure the travelling supporters were ushered safely from Newcastle Central Station and on to a Metro to keep them out of the city centre.
But gang of 40 arrived at the station, at around 8pm, intent on causing violence following their teamâs draw.
Four police dogs, called, Clio, Floyd, Earl and Diesel were left injured after they were kicked and stamped on while on the floor.
Chief Supt Smith continued: âAn investigation is under way to trace these people and have them brought to task for their actions.
âThere is no room for people such as this amongst the law-abiding football fans who go week in and week out to support their team. Therefore weâll also be progressing football banning orders against these violent individuals to ensure they donât spoil future games for the true supporters.
âWe are well aware that the majority of football fans do not behave in this way. Law-abiding fans can rest assured weâre doing all we can to track down these particular individuals as soon as possible.â
But then again Sunderland fans are angels aren't they? Lets face it, both clubs have an unwanted element.
