    Thought I'd pass this on....

I don't know if any of you know - but James Beattie has now paid Accrington Stanley's tax bill out of his own pocket so they wouldn't be hit with a transfer embargo.

    Premiership primadonnas, take note.

Yeah, it was mentioned in the Beefy thread, but fair play to James. He saw a need and could afford it. There was a press article about it too, which showed that Beatt's altruistic act is not unknown in football.

Surely it's not as altruistic as it seems really; had the embargo gone through it would have made his life considerably more difficult, and I'm sure he'll be looking for reimbursement when they can afford it.

OK, we could debate whether it was altruistic or not. Very few actions are done entirely altruistically, but Beattie stepped in when somebody needed to. I think he deserves praise for that.

BTW, how is the Bournemouth Marathon kitty shaping up..? :)

May have been a point about altruism in general, which is fair enough, I'm not arguing it doesn't exist, just that Beattie is helping himself as well as Accrington.

    Well done Beatts.

In that one jesture he has put more money INTO the game than the likes of Redknapp/Allarydce and other cream-off-the-top type managers in all the years they have managed clubs.

I know all clubs are businesses now, but wouldn't it be nice if the top earners in the prem
Donated some cash to the lower leagues but could specify what it got spent on.
Ie the stands / seats / food & drink areas maybe even on the actual pitch?

I'm following League 2 closely this season, good luck to Beatts in his first managerial position, i'm rooting for Stanley and the Gulls for promotion.

I'm sure that Beattie is fully aware of what he's getting into. He knows he'll never see that money back unless Stanley get a dream Cup draw away to Man Utd or similar.

Success for Stanley is staying in League 2, the very best they could hope for is play offs. It's a tiny club, small crowds, no sugar daddy, just making sure the club is in existance is the primary focus and Beattie has helped out considerably in that.

There's no bigger cynic than me, but this appears a genuine gesture. One that I'm sure many managers (even if they had the dosh) wouldn't dream of doing for their clubs.

Still dislike Beattie. But as I said on Beefy's fair play.

I couldn't stand Beattie as a player - no nothing to do with him playing for Saints - I don't know why; some-times you just take an instant dislike toward some-one without really knowing why.
Got to take your hat off to the man for doing that though.

Not doubting you, but is that absolutely proven, and was it an argument or a beating up, as you put it..?
