Well like I said earlier. Gourcuff has 'World Class' ability and is massively underrated. Injury problems have ruined his career so far but if Wenger got him fit and confident he could be a 'World Beater'.

    * He could also be a massive waiste of money and spend 30 games a Season in the treatment room.

The last thing we need is another injury prone player.I must admit I've seen very little of Gourcuff playing so i'm unable to comment on his ability

Bollox to that. I am going to listen to Lazarus because he is certain he knows everything that is going on behind the scenes. I am making him my #1 sauce of information about all things to do with Arsenal from now on.

Keep up the good work Lazarus & apologies for ever doubting you <cheers>

He was an amazing talent. Considered France's best prospect ahead of Ribery, Nasri and Benzema. Injuries and a lazy attitude have pretty much ruined his career so far.

Still IF he could get fit, (RVP and Rosicky overcame their injuries) He could be moulded into a great player.

Remember this..(one of my all time favourite goals)

I agree, sublime talent. But it would be a big risk to take him on, and quite frankly, if we're going to take risks I'd rather we went off and spent x amount on established top stars.

    Yeah, I agree with that.

Just think it's a shame that such a 'potentially' great player has gone to waist.

I think we have to be very careful about branding players "Lazy". We in England like the unskilled hard worker much more than the laid back genius. I'm pretty sure that is why we have such a hard time producing top-class creative midfielders.

That is why Parker, Milner and Barry have more caps than Le Tissier. There are no "Lazy" players at the professional level. Just players that are not fit, or that don't run around like headless chickens, and walk to the right place rather than run to the wrong one.

I think it could be a good signing. We have an opportunity to acquire a world-class player at a cut price, but he will not insist on a first team place right away. We do not want to be making wholesale changes to this team IMO. If we got Suarez and Gustavo, I would be happy. Then if we can pick-up a Gourcuff or two - so much the better.

If Gourcuff is world class, then i'm John McClane.

I don't think we should be signing another injury prone player to be honest. Gourcuff might be a decent player, but how much can we realistically expect from him ? I'd much rather we signed somebody who can offer us depth to the squad through the season, rather than always waiting for him to be injury free.

We've had (still have) enough "potentially world class" players whose careers have been ruined by this or that, I can't imagine why we'd add to the list.

This transfer window needs to be about the "now", not the future or alternate realities.

Signing ANY player is a risk. Shevchenko, Torres, Arshavin, were all superstars. Owen was signed by Real Madrid as a "Sure Thing" and a "Now".

There is ALWAYS a risk. It is just a judgement call on whether a player with potential will get better, or a player who has been brilliant in one environment will be good in another.

Yes we have been disappointed by the potential argument more often in the recent past, than we have been by the superstar argument, but we should try and put that aside and judge each case on its merit. We should not turn down another RVP or another Fabregas because we are scared of another Bendtner or Denilson. (In my opinion)

There are degrees of risk though. Signing Lionel Messi would carry less risk than signing Emile Heskey for example. I know this is an extreme example, but you get the point.

Signing Gourcuff would be a risk, because he's injury prone and would carry an added risk for us because so many of our recent signings Chamakh, Arshavin, Park, Gervinho didn't work out. We need some solid signings this window, not potential or players that might come good.

Everyone is 'potential' until they have proven themselves in our team and with our set-up etc.

There is no guarantee that any superstar could just slot into our team and be just as successful as they currently are with Barca or Milan or wherever...

Yes I agree. However, I don't think we would sign Gourcuff as one of our "1 or 2" big signings. But I would take him as a 3rd signing, if for example we signed Gustavo and Suarez.

I think we should come to terms with the fact Suarez is not coming to Arsenal.
Best thing that can happen is if Arsenal agree to take Benzema and Suarez moves to Madrid, Liverpool clearly aren't looking to sell him to us and I don't want us to become another classless club who pay whatever the owning club want often further inflating an already inflated market.
If we can't get our man for £40m then leave it, he isn't worth that in my opinion anyway, too much baggage and too many risks, I'd hate to see us go to £50m, if we had the desire we could probably get Fellaini and Rooney for £50m and that pair would strengthen us more than Suarez alone....

You damn right it's an extreme example, Heskie is a top tier striker, don't try to downplay him!
