We must be close to getting him? Not expensive compared to other players that have gone recently and a player that wants and needs to come to us, as well us us needing him. This should be a much easier transfer than others in the past, so this should move reasonably quick. Saying that, it's already taken this long so something must be holding it up. Maybe we have useless people in charge of our transfers?
Why should this be easier than 'others in the past'? Do you know something the rest of us don't? Care to share it with us? /yawn
Because, Bayern want to sell, Gustavo desperately wants to leave as it's a world cup year, we desperately need a DM and we have a massive stash of cash. And no one else including the mega rich clubs are in for him. Good enough explainations for you? /YAWN
Bayern Munich midfielder Luis Gustavo is open to the possibility of a move to Arsenal. "It is very important that I play first-team football to keep getting called up for Brazil. I have heard about the Arsenal interest. It's a big club, so of course I'd like to play for them," the Brazilian is quoted as saying in the Daily Express. "Arsenal play a very attractive brand of football and have a very clever manager in Arsene Wenger." Only thing missing is him wearing a neon vest saying "Come get me Arsene".
This seems a bit unfair. We've known about the Gustavo link for about three days now. Think of how long the Soldado, Paulinho and Capoue transfers took for Spurs - signing players that wanted to move for very decent sums of money. Again, transfers are for more complex than placing a bid, having it accepted, giving the player what he wants, then giving him the cough and drop test. We don't know what stage negotiations are at, how long they have been going on for, or all the hurdles that are in place. If things are no further forward in two weeks time then fair enough, but it's barely been 72 hours yet.
That's how long we've known. Arsenal would be more in the know than us and would have known he was available for a much longer time than 72 hours. Gustavo's future at Bayern was questionable many weeks before the papers caught wind. Remember Bayern bought 2 top midfielders quite a while back, and they were already well stocked before these two got in.
Apparently, Gourcuff want to come to Arsenal soo much he is willing to take a pay cut to do so. People dont appreciate just how good Gourcuff is in terms of raw talent. This is a guy who can be lazy, has been utterly plagued by Injuries but ultimately the has WORLD CLASS ability. I just wonder if we got him fit, just how good a player he could be under Wenger.
Despite going through a long barren spell, we are still a very attractive club to come to. We still have Wenger who is hugely respected, play a brand of football that is exciting and are a big enough club to be noticed from. I don't think it's hard for us to get players to come to us, it's just our reluctance to splash the cash.
If you look at today's Le Grove, they are saying that according to Raphael Honigstein (German sports journalist) that the decision to sell Gustavo has only just been made "Rapha Honigstein corrected yesterday’s post. Apparently Gustavo hasn’t been available all summer. The decision has only just made to part ways with his services"
That's the club officially giving everyone the "come and get him" notice . Lets face it, how many players are "officially available"? Teams have always come in and made enquires despite teams deciding to sell or not. Gustavo's days were numbered when they brought in a specialist DM Javi Martinez for big bucks. They then followed this up with Goetze and then Alcantara. Not forgetting they already had Schweinsteiger! Gustavo's agent would have been making enquires under cover as soon as the latter two players were drafted in.
I also forgot they have Toni Kroos! Bloomin ek they have a great central midfield. No chance Gustavo would have much playing time. He is much too good being a permanent bench player!
Hopefully we will go in with a firm bid, rather than dithering and allowing another to swoop for a player our team needs. Also following on from another thread Happy belated birfday Cym
