Depends who the loanee was. Assuming it was Chelsea, £9m + Van Ginkel would give us the CAM I feel we need, and Schwarzer would still have been available if we wanted to put the money into other positions. I'm glad Ruddy wants to stay, don't get me wrong, but I can see why the club would accept it.
I was in a bar last night watching the cricket and the Shield match (I am 7 hours ahead of u.k.) and met a Dutch guy. His take on Fer and RVW was that we had an awesome player in Fer, who could score more than 10 goals this season. But the downside is that the really big teams will be after him next summer. On RVW he was less sure. Thought he would be successful but to a limited extent. But he could improve as the season unfolds and he gets used to the challenge.
That's a given for both Fer, RvW and several others in our team. Whilst we don't need to sell players with our finances at the moment, any top class performances this season coming will have the bigger clubs circling. Suits me, as it will mean they've put in a top performance for us and we'll probably make a tidy profit. Ruddy's situation shows that they don't always want to leave anyway. Does show how important keeping the effort up with our scouting and youth policies will be though because I fully expect that we're going to need a few replacements in this time next year.
Just looking the Alderweireld latest... Norwich pushed out to 9/1 now behind Liverpool, Spurs, Everton and favourites Spartak Moscow at 4/7.
On Pinkun CH is quoted as saying: âWe are firstly hoping that it is not too bad with Gary,â he said âWe are trying to make sure we have a squad that is as strong as possible so we keep working and if that sees another player added to the squad then great. If not, then I am delighted with what we have got." http://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/...r_signings_after_gary_hooper_injury_1_2329408 A very non-committal comment, personally I wouldn't be surprised if we have our full squad now but it could depend on the GH situation. I'd like us to sign a striker and a AC myself but I don't think it's going to happen!
On Alderweireld. De Telegraaf reports this morning that Spartak's bid on the defender was nearly 7 million euro. Alderweireld is considering the option but is waiting on a deal between the clubs first. He's not saying no or yes yet as he states: "It's not all about the money but the total package of what a club has to offer. The wages are one thing, but I'm looking at what a club can do. I've already contacted my former team mate Aras Ãzbilliz to get some inside info on the Russian league and Spartak." really? sell one of our best players, who we know from his absence last season was a big loss when he was out. would need to be £12m+ for me.
I fail to see this as poor form, I find it reassuring that the club respects a player's wishes and I find JR's answer even more reassuring!
Isn't there rather a lot of jumping to conclusions going on here? What JR reportedly said was that the biggest offer the club received was £9M + a player on loan. He then said that when the club discussed things with him, they said that if he really wanted to go, they wouldn't stand in his way. He did NOT say that the club said they would accept £9M + a player on loan. It is quite likely that, had JR said "Yes, I do want to go", the club would have started serious negotiations with Chelsea, having up to that point simply been fielding ever increasing offers. To conclude that the club undervalue JR is wholly unwarranted.
robbie, that's fair enough, i'm not going into the detail as you have, just disagreeing with irdan that we should have sold if that was a true reflection of the bid.
Absolutely - hence why I'm not keen on either Toivanen or Alderweld (sp). I'm hoping that JR will have a relatively injury-free season, get some time between the posts in England games and so enhance his fee if he wants to go at the end of the season. PS - Just seen that Wet Sham have signed Steward Downing. Good signing for them I feel.
where has anyone at the club suggested we'd sell ruddy for £9m? awful lot of false scaremongering going on here
This looks far more likely to me. Great that Ruddy didn't want to leave, whatever the price or wages on offer.
Yes, my apologies. I shouldn't have quoted you in particular max, since my moan applied to others too. It's a bit of a bandwagon of mine (don't expect anyone has noticed; certainly nobody seems to take any notice ) -- people putting an interpretation on what someone said which doesn't accurately reflect what they said, and then having a grumble.
Committed much the same sin myself yesterday evening on the stats and analysis thread and had to own up to it and do penance this morning
Are we likely to use our loan option/s? If we have difficulty acquiring the right standard players on a permanent signing then we still have the option of a loan or two. I can see one coming in, but who?.
Err what?! I said its poor we would have accepted a bid as low as 9m! What are you talking about? I'd want 15m and no reserve for a season on loan either.
keep your hair on, your comment wasn't that clear (see post #4668 the captain misread your post); i've re-read it now and i see the error of my ways. my mistake.
