Are we allowed to discuss transfers of other clubs then again (Arsenal, Spurs for example) or would that still offend some people too much?

Some of us were having an interesting discussion about Arsenal's title chances next season (or rather 'lack of') and whether or not they have proven themselves to be a "shambles" in the transfer market but were politely asked to shut up because some people weren't interested, that's the only reason I ask.

For the record, and if this is ok, I think Downing could be a very good signing for the 'ammers if he stays fit. He put in some good performances towards the end of last season and has always been harshly judged if you ask me, I think on his day he can be a cracking player, and if Allardyce can get the best out of him then Carroll will have plenty of crosses to feed on - which is what he does best after all.

Yeah, I think Downing will probably fit in at West Ham pretty well. Not someone I'd want us to sign, but he'll definitely do a job there.

Really surprised how much the rumours around our own club have dried up. Apart from Toivonen, Quagliarella and Alderweireld, I don't think we've been openly linked to anyone else for what feels like weeks now. I'd have thought we'd have at least had a couple of rumours in that time, even if they are of the wildly inaccurate twitter variety.

Your right, does seem that links to those players have dried up, I think Toivonen could still happen if CH hasn't given up, I think he's just holding out until the final days of the transfer window.

It's a bit slow at the minute. Hopefully something to discuss soon. Waiting for a big transfer to spring the window to life for the big boys - entertaining to watch.

I think Downing is dire but then so is Carroll and "Big" Sams style of football so should fit in great!

I suspect they can offer higher wages though, and for reasons I can't quite fathom, working with Di Canio appears to be attractive to some. In our favour is that we clearly wanted him first, can offer a nicer place to live, and I'd bet McNally and Hughton can do a better pitch than Di Canio and their chairman.

Same old crap, we get interested in a player for months, their agents make sure it's splashed across the European media and we get gazumped! oh well :(

It's the Italian connection with DiCanio though isn't it? Not much we can do about that tbh, doesn't matter how convincing Hughton and McNally are. Besides, I thought I'd seen comments that he didn't want to leave Italy?

It could be that City are playing the waiting game, but with both Toivonen, Alderweireld and Quagliarella looking less likely day by day, Mounir El Hamdaoui is another possibility still. I can't believe that CH would gamble on going into next season with just the 3 strikers we have now. Hooper's injury should bring that message home.

“We are firstly hoping that it is not too bad with Gary,” he said “We are trying to make sure we have a squad that is as strong as possible so we keep working and if that sees another player added to the squad then great. If not, then I am delighted with what we have got."

Maybe but he might well be delighted with what he has ;)

A bit pessimistic considering that as far as I'm aware we have got the players CH has gone in for and not lost out on anyone by being gazumped.

yes wages could be a factor. it'll be very interesting to see how di canio and sunderland get on this season, i've lost track of the number of players he has signed, pretty much 2/3rds of a squad. could be good or go horribly wrong with too much change

They beat Tottenham in pre-season, mind you they didn't have Bale.

I wouldn't read too much into pre-season results though fenland
it's shaping up to be a great season though
back on transfer talk, if we are talking about other clubs, can i propose a blanket ban on talking about Bale,Suarez,Fabregas or Rooney?
