Don't speak too soon. Your club record fee is what... 15 mill? How many years ago now? Soon you'll be making a club record purchase in the region of what we've paid, and could end up in the same boat!
Yeah I know I was just jesting with NSIS. Personally I think transfer fees have gone nuts this summer. There were a few years where it seemed to calm down a bit, but this summer has seen it ramped right up again. 55m for Cavani, 5Om for Suarez, 35m for Higuain 100m for Bale, Paulinho and Soldado were extremely pricey too. All of these players are overpriced imo, but that's the market, one inflated price leads to another.
Soldado didn't make it at Real Madrid, but he's been a decent performer in La Liga for the past 4-5 years so there's every reason to think he's equipped to do well in the PL. But the thing that surprised me about the transfer was Spurs paying £26M (plus decent wages, no doubt) for a 28 year old.
It's an inflated transfer window this time around. Personally I think it's a big risk for Spurs spending this sort of money on Soldado But then if they are expecting a massive windfall from selling Bale, they can afford to take some risks.
There's an "old" saying. If he's good enough,he's old enough! 28......is that old?Damn,he should be approaching,or in,his prime!....and players usually only stay for a couple of seasons anyway, these days.......
Or past his prime ? In all seriousness though, he's probably got two seasons left at his best. I don't know how much you're paying him, but somewhere in the 80k range ? That's 8.5m in wages on top of 26m transfer. 35m for a couple of seasons, it's not cheap by any stretch of the imagination.
2 seasons at his best? Piss off you moron Drogba and Berbatov are examples of strikers going past 30 and still playing good football. Take your rose tinted glasses and jog on back to your own board.
Got to disagree mate, he's not blessed with great pace, he uses positioning instead, so as long as he keeps his brain working, i can't see why he won't last for another 5 years
And he's back in wum mode. So as soon as he turns 30 we might as well ship him off to the retirement home shall we? Strikers these days can play at the top well into their 30s, especially the Soldado mould where he is not particularly reliant on pace, his positioning and finishing are only going to improve in the next few years. If he has a good first couple of years for us, there is no reason why he can't have five good years for us. Ibrahimovic - approaching 32, any club in the world would take him. Raul, Del Piero, Klose, Makaay, Inzaghi, Van Nistelrooy - all were still banging them in at 35 and there are many more you could name.
Wouldn't it be nice for him to help us lift a trophy for once.Remind me.A trophy is a shiny thing isn't it.You know, those things United buy every season!!!!!?
Young Spanish people in general tend to take their health and fitness more seriously than those in the U.K. Of course, there are exceptions, but again, generally alcohol is consumed sparingly. Spanish footballers, likewise, tend to take their professional seriously. I would be surprised if Soldado doesn't prove to be in exceptionally good shape - he probably has been since his youth. If he remains free is serious injuries, I see no good reason that he can't play at the top level for another 5 years or so.
Well said You've only got to look at Llorente, who hired in his own fitness and nutrition team to get him in unbelievable shape.
£15mill for a Brazil international who got awarded 3rd best player in the Confederations Cup is hardly overpriced. Fernandinho was overpriced. No mention of Gotze either? It's very difficult for fans to judge price tags though. As for Cavani, goalscorers like him are worth that kind of money to clubs, RVP would've been valued similarly were it not for his contract expiring and Suarez is thought of along the same lines too, although as I've said, he's yet to prove it in more than one season. Anyway, I'd rather the silly money flew around clubs rather than straight into owners pockets and rather than in creating performance enhancing drugs to soup up the current players at the club, which is probably cheaper.
