Congrats Spurs fans, looking forward to how he performs for you guys. On the surface he seems well equipped to fit nicely into your team.
In peace, but I'm afraid I cannot fathom how he's worth £26m. I might be wrong, but he's a pen taker and been scoring goals in a fairly average league, though didn't score vs Barca or Real. At 28 years old it sure looks like a LOT of money.
Luckily we don't really need him to score against Barca or Real Madrid. My worry with him is not his goalscoring but whether he'll suit our style of play. AVB seemed to want our strikers to get involved in different areas of the pitch last season and he doesn't look like a player that suits that.
I'm merely hoping that we haven't bought ourselves another Pav, someone with bags of talent, but too bone idle to put in the effort and to scrap for goals. Mind you, I'd settle for another Berbatov.
I think that was mainly just down to the fact Bale was playing a free role and he wanted strikers to drag defenders out of position, leaving Bale more space to run into which at times did work, just Adebayor took it too far at times and decided to bring his sun-lounger and camp out at the halfway line. As for this Saldado, does seem a huge price, but we met his buyout clause and usually clubs, actually all the time, clubs insert a buy out clause to scare clubs off or get a silly price, we wasn't scared off and paid that silly price, someone at our club rates him highly and i expect its our new DOF.
I have no concerns regarding the price we've had to pay, because that's the way the market it is. Unless a team is prepared to pay these excesses, they won't get anywhere near the quality of a Higuian or a Soldado. It's the same market forces that, ultimately, will prevent Real from purchasing Bale this season, as I am fairly confident that the Spanish government will not advance them £100m+ in the current economic climate.
Thats still to be seen, as we don't actually know how good Soldado is, in terms of the premier league but I agree we have to pay 26 plus to buy a player of the standard of RVP or Rooney, its just we have to take a gamble and sign someone who could either be RVP or another PAV or god forbid a Reyes! I've always wanted us to take more risk, yet if this doesn't work out, I dread to think out tight Levy will be in the future!
Hadn't thought of it like that but is AVB really going to abandon the role that Bale did so well in last summer? I'd have far rathered Benteke, personally, but as I've said I'm happy to be proven wrong.
And personally I wanted Hernandez, shame no one at spurs listens to us!! ......Bale abandoning his role, no, I have basically accepted Bale is off so all my thoughts are about how the team will perform without Bale and if Bale was to stay then it will be a massive boost!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23578515 Welcome Roberto. He's been featured on the La Liga shows for a couple of seasons now, from what i see he gets about a bit, an intelligent passer and mover, nice touch, and cracks the odd one out of nothing. Just what the doctor ordered if he's fit and settles in I think.
First interview: Nothing particularly surprising. For me...
I saw him play on Thursday in the training ground friendly, but the players up against him seemed so star struck by his presence, they were standing off him and he was always in acres of space every time he received the ball. He'll find today a much bigger test, that's for sure.
Hopefully he's useless as from previous seasons if our players look good in preseason they have tricked us. Apply that logic to Utd who have looked hopeless so far and you can look forward to a great season
