If you need any more proof, type "why renaults" into the search bar of google and have a look at the suggestions it brings up. But, it's your money to throw in the fire after all, but I'd sooner tear half of it up and buy a 15 year old VW for half the price and still be confident I'd got a better deal.
A 4 year old thread on a Mercedes (German) owners forum is hardly definitive as to whether or not to buy a Renault. Second hand VW's have a long list of issues that owners have complained of. Look at Which magazine's article on issues with VW Golfs from December for example. Renault have improved greatly in recent years. Anyone who says otherwise is living in the past. Lowly indeed. Slow, heavy, overpriced. You'd be better with the Micra
None of those things. Quick, light and only £1800 when I got it in pristine like new condition. Only fault with the entire thing was/is a stone chip in the bonnet. It'd smoke your little Clio over half a mile, it's not great off the mark but once you hit speed it keeps pulling like a beast, I've left a brand new 2 litre turbo diesel Beemer for dead with it. Good on fuel aswell, 40 to the gallon when she's driven calmly. Top car.
My little clio has more power, is faster to 60, has a higher top speed, is lighter and more agile. I left an R32 for dead last week going home from work. On track the clio has outrun M5's, Porsches, Scoobies. My mates 500bhp porsche 996 turbo could not keep up round Anglesey GP circuit in the wet, and that is 4wd. It is a brilliant package. Watch the Top Gear review of it. Read the Evo magazine review of it (Harry Metcalf owns a Clio Trophy). They all love it.
That's like saying 'my snowplough outpaced a porsche in the snow', all performance cars are **** in the wet.
Fair point, although not all performance cars. My old man's old Evo 9 was great in the wet, even on cut slicks
Mines **** on corners, it's still on the standard VW suspension which isn't quite strong enough for the weight of the engine when you're pushing it, I keep toying with getting some coilovers on it but I'm still undecided how long in going to keep it. You'd twat me to 60, most things do, but after that is where the golf really comes to life, the only thing I've tested it with that twatted me after 60 was a modded turbo scooby. One thing my golf would **** on your Clio over hands down every day of the week is noise. You can never beat the roar of a V shaped block. I didn't buy this car to be fast though anyway, I bought it as an all rounder to fit everything it needs to in it, good on fuel, comfortable and spacious on long journeys but with a sprinkle of power for when I want a little fun. I can't wait for her indoors to finally learn how to drive so she can have a big family car then I can go nuts on track worthy motor Or just buy an old metro and stick a lotus engine in it, not much keeping up with that either
