Other than mentioning it on here, I haven't tried to shift it yet.

I think a friend is going to take a look at it for his daughter shortly.

As long as a cars looked after mileage isn't a problem. Although at that mileage it will need the cam belt doing if its not already been done. 71k has years of life left in it.

But for that sort of money you don't want to be throwing it away on a crappy Clio that will sink in value faster than a rowing boat carrying lead weighs with holes in the bottom, and cause nothing but problems with crappy and mind boggling French engineering.

You are far, far better off going for a slightly older vw golf or Audi a3 turbo diesel, which will run forever and still hold good value when it comes to sell. My mate just sold his 05 a3 1.9 tdi for £3500 with 140k on the clock.

Trust me, forget about the French crap. The only good cars they ever made are 20 years old now.

I'd go for a Vauxhall Astra. Good for parts, cheap to maintain and look good

Failing that, a Seat Ibiza :emoticon-0178-rock:

In Renault's defence, I have owned mine for 6 years and in that time have had relatively trouble free motoring (certainly no more trouble than my Ford, BMW, Audi owning friends and family). I don't know whether or not I have been lucky, or the other posters have been unlucky, or they have never owned one and are simply Renaultists.

If the car has been well looked after by previous owner(s) then you could do a lot worse than a Clio. But if any make of car is not looked after it will be a lemon.

I'm not sure what you are looking for in a car, or what sort of motoring you will be doing, but I would say in general terms this:

You could also look at a Seat. Basically a VW without paying the ridiculous premium you pay for having a VW badge.

Audi tend to be expensive to buy and for servicing. Audi are also now driven by all the ****ers who used to own Beemers, so you may get called a **** for owning one.

You could also look at a Vauxhall, but then you would have to lie when asked what you drive, because if you say Vauxhall they will laugh in your face.

You could probably pick up a decent Ford for the money you have.

Avoid Citroen - they are ****.

Avoid Peugeot - horrible to drive, and cheap and nasty looking inside and out.

You could buy OLM's mini. If you are a girl.

Any other info you'd like just ask <ok>

Avoid ford and vauxhall like the plague. General Motors crap. Awful, awful engines.

Honda, Toyota and Nissan you also can't go wrong with, though other ham the civic, they don't do a small car fit for a man.

You can go wrong with a Toyota. They're that ugly they turn you to stone if you look at one directly.

    Civic's are ok.

    Nissan - only if it's a Skyline or GT-R

I'm currently driving an 06 Toyota Corolla 2 litre Turbo Diesel. It's a ****ing tank, done 91,000 and it was new when I got it. Aside from an electrical fault a few years back, it's had no problems at all. I have no intention of selling it, but I can recommend one to anyone and they aren't too expensive.

VW all the way or japanese car.

Had an old VW polo and it was ****ing great, still works great, not much maintenance needed and it was spacious. (I managed to transport my whole drum kit in it)
